From the 2019 vintage, this great white has made an extra step-up with a longer maceration with sur lie. Fantastic elegant and accessible wine. Nicely fresh and fruity and made from traditional white grapes from Tuscany : 30% Trebbiano, 50% Vermentino and 20% Malvasia Bianca. The vineyard is located in Il Mulino at about 180m above sea level. There, the grapes are picked exclusively by hand and only the most ripe grapes are carefully selected. The Vermentino grapes are vinified by traditional pressing and fermenting the juice at a low temperature for 1 month with the natural yeasts. The Trebbiano and Malvasia Bianca grapes remain in the pressing machine for several hours (7-12 hours) after cooling and then go into a stainless steel tank for fermentation and for 3-4 months. When fermentation of each different variety has come to an end, the wine is combined. Everything at Ghizzano is done according to organic and biodynamic principles and fermentation only happens on the basis of spontaneous fermentation (ie the natural yeasts that are on the grapes) and this can mean that the yield varies greatly every year. The Ghizzano Bianco is also a wine that can age beautifully for several years.

This Il Ghizzano Bianco is very accessible, soft, fruity (citrus aromas), minerally and has a fine acidity. In the nose we mainly smell acacia, pineapple, pear, yellow peach and white pepper. The wine has nice complex layers and with some time in the glass, attractive aromas and flavors of apple, peach and dried pear are released. Full of phenolic tension and lots of flavors from the long aging on its own yeasts with a delicious long lasting intense aftertaste.

The wine is certified organic and has the "Suolo e Salute" certificate. This delicious white wine also goes well with salads, pastas, vegetarian dishes and lean fish. Also lovely to enjoy on a terrace. The Bianco Costa Toscana is always made in a very small edition and only goes to a very limited number of importers outside of Italy. Year after year, this wine is highly valued by renowned wine journalists such as James Suckling and Jancis Robinson.

Tenuta di Ghizzano is located in Ghizzano, close to the Tuscan coast, about 40 km from Livorno and 40 km south of Pisa. The area is also known as Colline Pisane (Hills of Pisa). The wine estate is certified organic and biodynamic with an ancient history and famous for their terroir-driven wines. People do not like tricks and believe that the condition for a good wine must be the vineyard, so a top wine comes from a top vineyard. The wines of Tenuta di Ghizzano are all gems and are of a high standard, which is also unanimously confirmed by the wine critics.
