Description
The Jermann Where Dreams have no End is an almost pure expression of Chardonnay (some small percentages of the other grapes are added). After harvest and traditional fermentation, the juice matures for 11 months in small, French oak barrels of 300 liters (5 passages).
This winner from Jeremann has sophisticated and exceptionally creamy aromas of exotic fruit, pineapple, roasted almonds and freshly churned butter. The wood is beautifully balanced with the natural intensity of the fruit. Soft layers of peach and apricot give the wine exciting depth and breadth. A wine made from a 'dream' of chardonnay grapes.
One of the top producers from Friuli and one of the most famous makers of Italian white is undoubtedly Silvio Jermann. The Jermann family estate is located in the far northeast of Italy in the hilly region of Friuli, near the Slovenian border, in the DOC Collio, and dates back to 1881. Since Silvio, the third generation, took over in 1975, an enormous revolution took place. By continuously investing and making optimal use of the sandy and marly soil that is so suitable for the white grape varieties, he expressed his urge for innovation, with fantastic results. This made him a worldwide phenomenon. Elegance, depth, richness, structure and minerality characterize his wines, which are served in many star restaurants worldwide. 96/100 Suckling

This is attractive and fresh with notes of glazed lemons and apples as well as young hazelnuts, spicy herbs and custard. Some spices, too. Full-bodied and layered with steady acidity that gives shape to every detail of the fruit. Some attractive savory nuances here before a mineral finish. It’s complex but a very approachable wine, and already beautiful to drink, yet can hold too. Screw cap.

The 2020 Where Dreams Have No End is rich yet floral, with a bouquet of crushed almonds, vanilla bean and dried flowers giving way to baked pear. This is a soft and textural model of purity on the palate, with mineral-inflected apples and nectarine. The 2020 finishes with remarkable length and concentration, leaving a trace of hazelnut and lemon oils to taper off slowly. This is a classy vintage of Where Dreams Have No End.

The Jermann winery, now entirely under the management of Antinori yet utilizing the original winemaking team, continues to make improvements across the board. Most notable is a plan to replant seven hectares of vineyards each year after conducting soil analysis and determining the best locations for each variety. Given that the property consists of 180 total hectares, this will be an ongoing project for many years to come. What’s more, there’s a push toward transparency in the wines. Both Where Dreams (Chardonnay) and Vinnae (Ribolla Gialla) are now 100% varietal wines. What’s more, Where Dreams will once again be bottled under cork as of 2021.
