Description
An absolute top-notch white wine. A blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Malvasia, Istriana, and Picolit. Simply unique. Ready to drink now and can be kept until 2028+. Jermann's Vintage Tunina is also known as the Tignanello of white wines. It was one of the first to open the door to the new-style white wines from Friuli. These new-style wines use a mix of grape varieties to create beautiful blends.
One of the top producers from Friuli and one of the most famous makers of Italian white is undoubtedly Silvio Jermann. The Jermann family estate is located in the far northeast of Italy, in the hilly Friuli region, near the Slovenian border, in the Collio DOC, and dates back to 1881. Since Silvio, the third generation, took charge in 1975, a huge transformation has taken place. By continuously investing and optimally utilizing the sandy and marl soil so well-suited to white grape varieties, he expressed his drive for innovation, with fantastic results. As a result, he became a global phenomenon. Elegance, depth, richness, structure, and minerality characterize his wines, which are served in many Michelin-starred restaurants worldwide.
The Tunina grapes come from one of Jermann's finest vineyards. The wine's color is straw-yellow gold, and its aroma is intense and full-bodied, with hints of honey and wildflowers. The palate is full and rounded, velvety smooth, and has a lovely, long finish. Harvesting for this unique blend of grapes takes place approximately two weeks later than the usual harvest. The name Tunina refers to the former owner of the land where the vineyard is located and is also dedicated to a governess from Venice, the mistress of Cassanova, who was called Tunina, the diminutive of Antonia, her real name.
The 2019 vintage is one of the best. Suckling (97/100) writes: "...One of the best I have tasted in a long time. Drink or hold."
