Description
One of the top producers from Friuli and one of the most famous makers of Italian white is undoubtedly Silvio Jermann. The Jermann family estate is located in the far northeast of Italy, in the hilly Friuli region, near the Slovenian border, in the Collio DOC, and dates back to 1881. Since Silvio, the third generation, took charge in 1975, a huge transformation has taken place. By continuously investing and optimally utilizing the sandy and marl soil so well-suited to white grape varieties, he expressed his drive for innovation, with fantastic results. As a result, he became a global phenomenon. Elegance, depth, richness, structure, and minerality characterize his wines, which are served in many Michelin-starred restaurants worldwide.
This Jermann is made from 100% Pinot Grigio grapes ( pinot gris ) and is fermented like a white wine. The wine is aged for 6 months on its lees (sur lie) and then for another 3-4 months in the bottle before being marketed. It has an intense straw-yellow color; the aroma is intense, full-bodied, and fruity, with excellent persistence. The palate is dry, velvety, fragrant, and persistent.
Serving suggestions: Pairs well with fish soups, grilled seafood, and various dishes based on wild mushrooms and porcini mushrooms. This wine is delicious with lasagna pasta with squid ink and crayfish sauce. (Daniele Cernilli)
