Description
The Ripassa is the little brother of the region's flagship, the Amarone. This concept was invented when the prices of this wine skyrocketed due to the high demand for Amarone. Amarone gets its enormous concentration by allowing the grapes to dry. For Ripassa, part of this must and part of freshly harvested 'normal' Valpolicella are used, this is then fermented again together, after which the wine continues to mature in wooden barrels for another 18 to 24 months. The wine is a blend of Corvina, Rondinella and Oseleta.
The Zenato Ripassa has a beautiful, deep ruby red color and an intense and elegant nose of plums, mocha, candied figs, sweet spices and a touch of cocoa. Beautiful balance and velvety soft with a beautiful structure. A stunningly delicious glass!

From: Veneto: The Land of Opportunity (Mar 2023)
The 2019 Valpolicella Superiore Ripasso Ripassa is dark and brooding in the glass with rich plum and mocha complicated by crushed ashen stone. This is surprisingly juicy and energetic within, blending sour cherry with notes of sage and black olive over a core of brisk acidity. The 2019 leaves the cheeks puckered while finishing full of tension and spicy as a balsamic flourish slowly tapers off.
