In southern Italy, or the heel of the boot, wine has been rapidly developing. The government is playing a stimulating role in this and, years ago, asked the famous Antinori and De Corato families (Rivera) to share their expertise there. They are well-suited to do so. The De Corato family of Rivera and Antinori belong to a small group of renowned winemakers and are the sole representatives of the Apulia region in the "Istituto Grandi Marchi" (www.istitutograndimarchi.com). This institute comprises 19 of the most prestigious Italian wine producers, including Antinori, Gaja, Biondi Santi, Masi, Sassicaia, Pio Cesare, Tasca d'Almerita, Lungarotti, Lageder, and Jermann, to name a few.

The name Tormaresca means "tower by the sea" and refers to both the history and the location. Many old watchtowers can still be found along the coast. Tormaresca has experienced enormous growth, but that's not surprising now that it's under the leadership of Antinori.

This 100% Negroamaro from Tormaresca comes from a vineyard with rather chalky soil, which gives the wine a pleasant mineral note. Upon harvest, the grapes are destemmed and crushed. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks. The wine ages in these tanks for about eight months and, after bottling, for another four months in the bottle.

The Tormaresca Neprica Negroamaro has an intense ruby-red color with a purple hue. The bouquet offers a broad aroma of diverse red fruit, black cherry, and subtle hints of violet. The wine is soft, fruity, well-balanced, and has ripe tannins. It pairs wonderfully with Mediterranean dishes, red meat, and charcuterie. We recommend enjoying this wine slightly chilled (sun around 14-15 degrees Celsius) – it's also wonderful as a standalone glass on the patio or in a lounge chair.

Antinori has taken Tormaresca under his wing and a team of winemakers has ensured in a very short time that the 500 hectares of Tormaresca domains produce beautiful wines. The area of Puglia has become one of the most famous D.O.C. areas of Italy. Tormaresca is located in 2 of the main wine regions, with Bocca di Lupo in the D.O.C. Castel del Monte and with Masserìa Maime in Salento. The name Tormaresca has a direct link with the rich history of the area. Tormaresca, or tower by the sea, refers to the many watchtowers that still adorn the Puglia coastline. This watchtower is also proudly featured in the house's logo. A surprising area, long known for its bulk, but for years now on the advance, with Tormaresca at the forefront of the battle. The versatile wines are now nationally and internationally recognized and widely appreciated. Partly organically produced and all with a direct link to Puglia.
