The Barolo DOCG Sarz is a red wine produced with Nebbiolo grapes from the DOCG area (Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita) of Barolo. The perfect exposure of the vineyard, together with the specific characteristics of the climate and soil, leads to an extremely elegant and long-lived wine. The vineyard is located at 310 meters above sea level with ideal southern exposure. The vineyard is located on soil consisting of fossil marl from S. Agata - gray-blue marl (more or less sandy) with local sand accumulations and very calcareous. The vineyard was planted in 1982;

The Nebbiolo is a late ripening grape variety and the grapes for this great Barolo are harvested in the first half of October. Once at the winery, the grapes are destemmed and crushed and then placed in stainless steel thermo-conditioned tanks where alcoholic fermentation takes place. The alcoholic fermentation takes more than 10 days at a temperature of 28-30 ° C. The wine then remains in contact with its lees for at least two months while the lactic acid fermentation is completed. The wine is now ready and must mature in peace. This is done in oak barriques, with approximately 60% in new oak and 40% in 1-year-old oak barrels for 36 months. Montaribaldi's vision is that oak refines the wine provided it is not excessive. The Barolo Sàrz is then bottled but remains in the Montaribaldi cellars for at least 6 months. Montaribaldi is a specialist in terroir wines, so it is not a chemistry factory because good wine comes from a good vineyard and a vintage must reflect the terroir, is Luciano's opinion and we fully support this.

In the glass, this Barolo Sàrz has the typical garnet red color with orange reflections. Beautiful notes of wood, leather, ripe fruit and spices on the nose. In the mouth the wine is full-bodied with fresh acidity, refined, beautiful tannins that are not bitter but very well integrated. Our advice is to decanter the wine or open it at least 2 hours in advance. The great success of this winery comes from tradition and innovation, which enables them to produce beautiful wines of a very high quality every year. The wine is perfect with roasted meat, savory cheese and of course dishes with truffles. This is a wine with great aging potential.

FACT: In the Tab: Appendix you will find the official fact sheet of this beautiful wine. We will send it to you automatically when you order this wine. The wine is in our conditioned Wine Warehouse and if you pick up the wine you will also receive a nice discount. We are almost next to the Rijksweg with plenty of parking. Click here for address.

BAROLO VS BARBERESCO

Piedmont - synonymous with truffles, risotto and, of course, delicious wines! - is considered one of the best wine regions in Italy. The local conditions of terrain, soil and weather create some fantastic wines. As far as red wines are concerned, the Barolos and Barbarescos are world-famous, powerful wines that keep well. Although Barolo and Barbaresco are made from the same grape, Nebbiolo, and produced in adjacent areas less than 10 miles apart, Barbaresco and Barolo wines have a number of distinctive differences.

The Barbaresco area is located south of the Tanaro River and the area, due to its location, has a slightly higher average temperature which allows the Nebbiolo grape to ripen here slightly earlier than in the Barolo area. Young tannins in a young Barbaresco are often not as hard as Barolo and under DOCG rules it is permitted to release Barbaresco for sale a year earlier than Barolo. The most pronounced difference between the two wines is that Barbaresco's tannins tend to soften more quickly, with the wine being more accessible at a younger age than Barolo. The Barbaresco area is smaller than the Barolo area with an annual production of approximately 35% of Barolo production, meaning that Barbaresco is not as widely available on the market.

The 'azienda agricola Montaribaldi' is historically a family business, located in the middle of the Langhe hills in the small village of Barbaresco. The Montaribaldi winery has been owned by the Taliano family from the beginning and has 19 hectares in the Barberesco area. In 1994 Luciano and Roberto took over the company from their father and immediately decided to only produce high quality wines. It is still a real family business, father Guiseppe and mother Carla as well as the wives of the owners, Antonella and Franca all cooperate. At present they produce about 75000 bottles a year. Thanks to the perfect location of the vineyards of Montaribaldi and the typical white soil of the hills in Langhe, the elegant wines that come from them have a long life. Note that the land around the Montaribaldi vineyards is from Gaja. The family makes some of the most famous wines from the Piedmont region: Barbaresco DOCG, Barolo DOCG, Barbera d'Alba DOC, Barbera d'Asti DOCG, Roero Arneis. They offer a complete range of wines, from grapes typical of this region. Typical of this winery is that the wines have their origin in Piedmont, are always recognizable as a 'Montaribaldi' wine and are sustainably grown and produced. As they call it themselves: making 'vineyard wines' distinguishes them from others.
