Description

The Hans Wirsching winery is one of the most traditional and renowned wineries in Franconia. The family has been cultivating wine for centuries; since 1630! Today, the company is managed by Andrea Wirsching and Dr. Heinrich Wirsching. On 90 hectares in and around Iphofen, mainly dry white wines are produced here from Silvaner, Riesling and Scheurebe.

Some wines are still bottled here in the typical Franconian “Bochsbeutel” bottle, whose name is derived from the word “book”, because it fitted like a bottle into the bag in which monks and pilgrims carried their prayer books. It has been a trademark of special Franconian wines since the beginning of the 18th century.

Hans Wirsching is the reference of Franken and the national and international wine press is also full of praise for their wines. Hans Wirsching works with great respect for nature and the environment and in a sustainable way.

The Hans Wirsching Iphöfer Julius-Echter-Berg Riesling Trocken Grosses Gewächs (VDP. Grosse Lage) comes from the Julius-echter-Berg vineyard, at an altitude of 300-400 metres, located north of Iphofen, about 100 km northwest of Nuremberg on a “Keuper” soil; (sediment from marshy primeval forests). The wine ferments and ages only in stainless steel to preserve its freshness.

The Riesling Iphöfer Julius-Echter-Berg "VDP. Erste Lage" is pure and elegant with a concentrated nose of crushed stone and perfectly ripe Riesling berries. Lush, round and salty, this is a very elegant and concentrated Riesling with mineral, crisp acidity, and pleasant freshness and with a long finish. The wine certainly needs a few years to come into balance, but then you can enjoy it for decades.

  • Salad with fennel, orange and goat cheese
The wine's fresh acidity combines beautifully with the citrus fruit and soft cheese, while fennel picks up the mineral notes.

  • Grilled chicken with lemon and rosemary
The spiciness and freshness of this dish match perfectly with the lively character of the Riesling.

  • Roasted cauliflower with almond shavings and tahini
The roasted nutty flavours enhance the spiciness and structure of the wine without overpowering it.

  • Salmon fillet with lime cream sauce and dill
The fattiness of the salmon and the creamy sauce are perfectly balanced by the tension and freshness of the wine.

  • Monkfish with beurre blanc, fennel and chervil
The fine, creamy sauce and subtle spiciness of the dish go beautifully with the depth, acidity and aromatic intensity of the Riesling GG.

  • Ravioli filled with lobster in a saffron and lemongrass sauce
The rich filling and spicy, citrusy sauce find an excellent partner in the concentrated yet fresh profile of this top Riesling.
