The 2019 Domaine Bohrmann Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Le Puits – Hommage à Dieter is an exceptional Premier Cru from Saint-Aubin that not only reflects the quality of a magnificent terroir but also serves as a personal tribute to the founder of the estate. This Chardonnay combines the refined minerality of Saint-Aubin with ripe fruit, subtle oak influence, and impressive tension. The result is an elegant white Burgundy with great depth and excellent aging potential.

Domaine Bohrmann

Domaine Bohrmann is a young family estate based in Meursault, where tradition and a modern vision go hand in hand. Under the leadership of Sofie Bohrmann, the emphasis lies entirely on producing terroir-driven Burgundies in which elegance, precision, and purity take center stage. The vineyards are cultivated with great care, and in the cellar, a conscious choice is made for minimal intervention so that each climat retains its own character.

During the aging process, Sofie Bohrmann uses various sizes of oak barrels, including 500-liter barrels and partly Austrian oak. This approach ensures a subtle influence of the wood without overpowering the fruit or minerality. Furthermore, since the first vintages, the wines have been bottled unfiltered to preserve as much character and terroir expression as possible.

Le Puits – Hommage to Dieter

This exceptional cuvée comes from the Premier Cru vineyard Le Puits in Saint-Aubin. The name Hommage à Dieter is a tribute to Dieter Bohrmann, Sofie Bohrmann's father. He purchased this vineyard in 2010 and decided to completely replant the plot. In doing so, he laid the foundation for this special wine, which rightly bears his name as a lasting reminder of his passion for Burgundy.

Le Puits is one of the high-altitude Premier Crus of Saint-Aubin. The calcareous soil and relatively cool location produce Chardonnay with great tension, refinement, and a pronounced mineral signature. The terroir typically yields wines with a beautiful balance between ripe fruit and lively freshness.

The 2019 volume

2019 is considered an excellent vintage in Burgundy. The warm growing season yielded perfectly ripe grapes, while the cool nights retained sufficient freshness. This resulted in white Burgundies of great concentration, aromatic richness, and at the same time a strikingly beautiful balance.

For Saint-Aubin, this meant wines that are riper and slightly fuller than average, but in which the characteristic chalky freshness of the appellation was fully preserved. That makes 2019 particularly attractive, both for immediate consumption and for further bottle aging.

Scent, taste and character

The 2019 Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Le Puits opens with refined aromas of ripe citrus, white peach, pear, and lime blossom. Subsequently, subtle notes of roasted hazelnuts, brioche, acacia honey, and wet chalk develop, supported by an elegant minerality that remains constantly present.

On the palate, the wine immediately reveals its class. Ripe citrus and white stone fruit are supported by lively acidity and a chalky minerality that gives the wine great tension. The texture is refined and slightly creamy, with the subtle oak aging providing extra depth without being dominant.

The finish is long, pure, and mineral, with persistent notes of citrus, white flowers, fine herbs, and a subtle salty touch. It is precisely this combination of elegance, freshness, and depth that makes Le Puits a particularly fine representative of Saint-Aubin.

Drinking window and food and wine pairings

The 2019 Domaine Bohrmann Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Le Puits – Hommage à Dieter is already beautiful to drink, but will continue to develop for years to come. A drinking window until around 2032 is realistic.

Preferably serve this wine at 11 to 13°C.

This Premier Cru is an excellent accompaniment to scallops, lobster, turbot, sea bass, sole, poultry with creamy sauces, veal, risotto with truffle or mushrooms, and aged cheeses such as Comté or Beaufort.
