Description
Last year, A&D Wines was named the most revolutionary wine producer by Portugal's most important wine magazine VINHO because of their innovative Vinho Verde. A&D are Alexandre & Dialina Gomas, technical engineers with a great love for wine. You can immediately see that technical precision in the extremely healthy vineyards and very clean winery in the renovated Quinta de Santa Teresa. The wines are made from indigenous varieties such as Avesso, Arinto and Malvasia Fina, with minimal intervention. Result: incredibly pure wines with a lot of authenticity of the grape, expression and freshness.
Singular is the top wine from A&D Wines. Singular is made from the best grapes of the year, and therefore differs in composition every year. 8 grape varieties are used, including Avesso, Arinto, Malvasia Fina and Alvarinho, supplemented with a field blend. Each person drawn on the label is a unique figure. After all, no two people are the same. There is only one of each person, in other words: they are 'singular'. This also applies to the many grapes in the Singular blend. The A&D Singular is aromatic and complex. Broad palette of citrus fruit and yellow fruit. Rich and concentrated. Precision, freshness and minerality. Lots of length.
Alexandre & Dialina are well aware that the best grapes come from healthy vineyards. Healthy vineyards arise naturally if you treat nature well. Therefore, they protect natural water sources by leaving other natural vegetation intact. This vegetation is in turn kept in check by grazing cattle: this provides natural fertilization. Synthetic products and extermination are not necessary. This approach produces ripe, aromatic grapes that are not tampered with in the cellars. With minimal intervention but utmost precision, wines are made that express the landscape, grape and climate.
"Dancing acidity wed to tropical, tangy citrus and crème caramel flavors, with white chocolate and geranium layers. The MalvasÃa enhances body and richness, as does this innovative Baião blend's part fermentation and aging for several months with lees-stirring in 500l French oak barrels (10%) Certified organic, the fruit comes from Quinta de Santa Teresa's terraced vines at 100-320m altitude. - 93 points, Decanter on the 2021 vintage
"The 2019 Singular is 45% a field blend from old vines (with grapes like Avesso, Malvasia and Rabigato and vines ranging 60 to 100 years old), plus 24% Alvarinho, 11% Malvasia Fina and 10% each of Avesso and Arinto. It was partly (15% of the juice) aged for six months in used French oak. It comes in at 13% alcohol, 5.2 grams of residual sugar and 6.8 grams of total acidity this still shows dry. The latest release in the mini-vertical this issue, this has the advantage of freshness first and foremost. Just smelling it makes this seem exuberant and lively. t seem as big or as complex as the 2017, but it is far more refreshing. It makes the more stolid 2018 look dull. This 2019 looks like it has some upside potential because of its superior freshness potential, but it certainly is true that the 2017 shows far better today." - 90 points, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate on the 2019 vintage
"Yellow fruit, natural, earthy, biscuit. Pure, compact, juicy, balance." - 4.5/5 stars, Press wine about the 2017 vintage

It was partly (15% of the juice) aged for six months in used French oak. It comes in at 13% alcohol, 5.2 grams of residual sugar and 6.8 grams of total acidity. The acidity provides good balance for the modest sugar, so this still shows dry. The latest release in the mini-vertical this issue, this has the advantage of freshness first and foremost. Just smelling it makes this seem exuberant and lively. You can tell it is the youngest without tasting it. It doesn't seem as big or as complex as the 2017, but it is far more refreshing. It makes the more stolid 2018 look dull. This 2019 looks like it has some upside potential because of its superior freshness. Let's lean up a bit just for that potential, but it certainly is true that the 2017 shows far better today. This runs nine euros in Portugal. There were approximately 15,000 bottles produced.
