Since 2010, Telmo Rodríguez has been solely responsible for producing the wines at this family estate. The foundation was already solid, but now the wines are poised to be among the world's best!

A pure Rioja. A full-bodied wine with red fruit and a long finish with soft oak notes. Aged for 17 months in French (70%) and American (30%) oak. The Remelluri Reserva has a well-defined nose of blackberry leaf, mint, bay leaf, and balsamic vinegar. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, fresh acidity, and a beautiful, smoky finish with a hint of black pepper. This is a "serious" Rioja.

This vintage is a textbook example of what a top Rioja Reserva can be: powerful, concentrated, and refined. The combination of northern altitude, biodynamic practices, and modern vinification produces a gastronomic, expressive wine with ageing potential. The 2017 Reserva is perfect for both wine lovers and sommeliers seeking Rioja with depth and elegance.

ABOUT REMELLURI

With Remelluri, Telmo Rodriguez put Rioja on the map as a producer of original terroir wines. Long before the Rodriguez family settled at Remelluri, wine was already being produced on the estate. As early as the 14th century, the monks here made wine from grapes grown in the surrounding vineyards. In 1967, the estate came into the hands of Jaime Rodriguez, the father of pioneer and unconventional winemaker Telmo Rodriguez. Jaime immediately implemented radical changes. For example, he decided to make wine exclusively from grapes grown on his own vineyards, a rarity in Rioja at the time. He also strived for the most natural cultivation of the vineyards possible, in order to preserve their unique character as much as possible. In 2010, the vineyards, under Telmo's supervision, were officially certified organic.

The vineyards are among the highest in the Rioja Alavesa region. They are situated on the slopes of the Sierra de Toloño mountains, facing south, sheltered from the cold north wind. The stony soil with layers of clay, rainfall from the Atlantic coast, and the lower temperatures than average in Rioja ensure good phenolic ripening of the Tempranillo. Some of the vineyards are very old; also, in several vineyards, the grape varieties are traditionally interplanted. Read more under the tab: Winery

Wine and food pairing suggestions

1. Rack of lamb with mint, rosemary and roasted parsnips
Spicy, juiciness and nutty warmth match the wine's structure and fruit profile.

2. Hearty roast beef with red wine sauce and mushrooms
The umami and rich textures are embraced by the balance of fruit and tannins.

3. Risotto with porcini mushrooms and Parmesan cheese
The creamy risotto and earthy notes complement the refined fruitiness and minerality.

4. Grilled wild boar fillet with cranberry compote
Sweet and sour notes harmonize with red and black berry flavors in the wine.

5. Pasta pappardelle with ossobuco and sage-cream sauce
Deep, soft flavors and aromatic herbs match the layers of the Reserva.

6. Old hard goat cheese with figs and walnuts
Salt, sweetness and meatiness enhance the aromas and notes of maturity in the wine.

We also strive to cultivate the vineyards as naturally as possible, in order to preserve the special character of the vineyards as much as possible. In 2010, the vineyards were officially certified organic under the leadership of Telmo.

In the early 1990s, Telmo joined the company. The story goes that his father wants to keep the production of the red wines for himself, so Telmo comes up with the beautiful white Remelluri Blanco. After several years of making wine in other parts of Spain, Telmo returned to Remelluri in 2010, where he took up winemaking together with his sister Amaya. As a great advocate of terroir wines, he has a clear opinion about the wines of the Rioja. Because winemakers often buy most of the grapes from grape growers, they have lost the connection with the vineyards and the terroir, he believes. In addition, the low prices of the grapes have caused winegrowers to neglect or even grub up the more challenging vineyards, often the older, high-altitude plots. With the wines of Remelluri, Telmo wants to show that the Rioja has many different terroirs that can be beautifully expressed in the wines.
