Description
La Braccesca Achelo 2023 is a beautiful single-varietal Syrah from the historic Marchesi Antinori estate in Cortona. This wine combines power and elegance with a refined aroma of black fruit and spices, and a long, smooth finish. Perfect for lovers of top Tuscan reds.
Origin La Braccesca
La Braccesca is located in Tuscany, spread across 508 hectares of land between Montepulciano and Cortona. Since 1990, it has belonged to the Antinori family, who create a modern interpretation of the region with respect for tradition and terroir.
Terroir and vineyard
The vineyards for Achelo are located in the Cortona DOC, where warm days and cool nights ensure optimal Syrah ripening. The soils are clay-loam, which helps limit yields and produce concentrated grapes with intense character.
Grape & vinification of La Braccesca Achelo
Achelo is 100% Syrah. After hand-harvesting, the grapes are destemmed, gently crushed, and fermented in stainless steel at a controlled temperature (max. approximately 25°C). Approximately 70% of the wine is further aged in second- and third-fill French barriques for malolactic fermentation, while the remaining 30% remains in stainless steel. Bottling will take place at the end of September 2024.
Flavour profile & tasting notes
In the glass, a ruby-purple color with violet hues appears. The nose opens with notes of violets, blackcurrants, plums, black pepper, and vanilla. On the palate: juicy and full, silky tannins, good acidity, and a long, fruity finish with spices and a hint of licorice.
Wine and food pairing & serving suggestion
Serve at approximately 16-18°C. This wine pairs perfectly with grilled lamb, game stews, or soft, mature cheeses. Let the bottle breathe for 15-20 minutes for optimal enjoyment.

La Braccesca was acquired in 1990 by the Antinoris. Marchese Antinori has been looking for a long time to add a Vino Nobile di Montepulciano (including the Riserva) to its extensive range, but then it has to be "Antinori-worthy" and that is the case with La Braccesca. The estate's name comes from the historic farmhouse that once stood there, owned by the Count of Bracci, whose coat of arms appears on the estate's logo; an arm covered in armor brandishing a sword.
The estate extends over an area of 508 hectares (1,255 acres) and the vineyards cover an area of 340 hectares (840 acres) divided into two blocks: the first is 366 hectares (904 acres) of which 237 (585 acres) are planted with vineyards and located on the border between the towns of Montepulciano and Cortona. The other block is 142 hectares (350 acres), of which 103 (254 acres) are planted with vineyards, it stretches all the way to Montepulciano and includes three of the most famous plots known for the production of great red wines: Cervognano , Santa Pia and Graciano. In 1990, under the new leadership of Antinori, the first Vino Nobile and Riserva became available
