2016 Poggio Antico Brunello di Montalcino

There is also a replanting in the vineyard making the IGT Toscana Madre (a blend of Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon) - the replanting will last until 2026.

Poggio Antico is Brunello di Montalcino is made with 100% home grown Sangiovese and it is produced in the traditional way to let the purity of the grape shine. The wine is aged for a long time (3 years) and bottle refinement (1 year) for more depth and complexity in the wine.

The Brunello di Montalcino 2016 offers a pure and classic expression of the vintage with bright fruit notes, wild cherry, roasted nut, blue flower and forest floor. While the other wines in the Poggio Antico portfolio undergo aging in smaller tonneaux, this wine is matured in large Slavic barrels instead. You can taste the clarity of the fruit, and it's all very beautiful. Grapes come from a 13 hectare site at 500 meters altitude. The vineyards are the highest in the region and contribute to the freshness of the wine. The name of this area is I Poggi, and the soil here is a bit lighter and rockier with both schistous galestro and limestone alberese.
