Description
Borgogno is one of the very first and probably the oldest wineries in Piemonte. The Italian winery strongly believes in the classic and traditional philosophy which is its strength; for years the observance of these traditions has been passed on to the next generations. Borgogno owns 13 hectares of vineyards of which 9 are planted with the Nebbiolo grape. The wines are all vinified in a traditional way to produce unique and structured wines. The wines are produced sustainably.
Borgogno has several Cru vineyards at its disposal; Liste, Cannubi and Fossati. These vineyards are spread throughout the area and provide the best and typical Barolo styles. The Cannubi is the most famous and most praised Cru of Barolo and produces wines that can easily be 30 years old. Powerful wine with a maturation of 4 years in Slovenian oak barrels (6000 liters) after which the wine matures for another 6 months in the bottle. The Cannubi has a deep garnet red color in the glass with the typical roof tile orange tones. In the nose, the Borgogno Cannubi is full of scents of roses, herbs and dark fruit. Beautiful layers and very complex. In the mouth a full bodied wine, powerful with refined tannins. You have Barolo and you have the Borgogno Cannubi.

The 2014 Barolo Cannubi is the most successful of these single-vineyard expressions from Borgogno. This wine shows a firm inner fiber. Perhaps because this vineyard parcel is harvested earlier than most of the others in Barolo, this wine shows more focus and brightness. However, this remains a mid-weight expression with an easy, near-term approach.

GIACOMO BORGOGNO & FIGLI BAROLO CANNUBI 2014
Monday, July 27, 2020
Country : Italy
Region : Piedmont
Vintage : 2014
Score : 93
Additional depth here, compared to the standard Barolo bottling, as well as a longer palate, making for a compelling wine with some aging potential. The tannins are firm and carry decent fruit flavor in a sturdy mode. Drink or hold.
