Located in the heart of Reims, Le Clos Lanson is the only hectare of vineyard that lies within the historic walls of the city. Hidden behind high walls, this single vineyard of chardonnay vines dates back to the
18th century offers a breathtaking view of the cathedral. Located just above the cellars of the house, le Clos Lanson is managed like a real garden, both because of its unique location and the special care it receives. In addition, this single vineyard benefits from a very pure, calcareous soil and an exceptional microclimate favorable for the development of the vine. Each year, only a very limited number
of vintage bottles are produced.
Volume 2009 was only released in November 2022 and is only distributed by the Place du Bordeaux. Only affiliated wine companies can buy here, including Grandcru wines. In the spring of 2009 the heavy rain showers and wind gusts left the vineyard little rest. Flowering only started well in early June, with some cool nights. The Fruit Set developed well, promising. The grapes reached their maturity during a period of perfect summer weather which
the Champagne region hadn't had since the summer of 2003. The weather was warm, dry and sunny for the veraison in the last two weeks of August. Thanks to a rainy period at the beginning of September, the grapes were able to 'fatten themselves' before the harvest. The rapid return of warm weather in early September meant that the grapes ripen in perfect conditions, right up to the harvest on September 9, performed by the women and men of the house.
Clos Lanson 2009 combines the minerality, freshness and very delicate woody note of this cuvée, with the unique generosity of the 2009 vintage. In the glass, the Clos Lanson has a pale golden color with a large number of very fine bubbles. In the nose, this top champagne is pure and seductive with notes of ripe fruit, dried fruit and vanilla. After some rolling we get aromas of white peach, bergamot, hazelnut, almond and a hint of brioche. In the mouth, the wine begins with softness and creaminess. A wave of white and citrus fruits, notes of pastry and finally a very delicate woody finish with a great long finish. In the tab: Appendix you will find the official fact sheet and an interesting presentation about this famous champagne house. At the bottom of this text is another nice video.
« To taste Clos Lanson is a journey to our iconic plot in the heart of Reims. It offers the unique wine signature with a great personality.»
Hervé Dantan, Winemaker
