Description
history of elio perrone and family
The Elio Perrone winery is located in Castiglione Tinella, in the heart of Piedmont. The Perrone family has been involved in winemaking for generations and is fully dedicated to the production of Moscato d'Asti. Elio Perrone himself has renovated and expanded the estate in the modern era, and the current generation, led by Stefano Perrone, continues the legacy. The estate is known for its meticulous care of the vineyards and a winemaking process that consistently strives for purity, finesse, and elegance. The philosophy revolves around limited yields and selection of the best plots, resulting in wines that clearly express their origins and character.
the terroir and climate of Moscato d'Asti
Elio Perrone's vineyards are located on the hills surrounding Castiglione Tinella, approximately 350 meters above sea level. The soils consist of calcareous marl and sand, which creates airy soil structures and optimal drainage. This terroir produces grapes with expressive aromatic intensity. The climate in Asti is characterized by warm summers and cool nights, allowing the Moscato grape to retain its characteristic aromatic richness and crisp acidity. The hillside location ensures constant air circulation, essential for healthy grapes and balanced ripening.
the grapes and harvest of 2007
For Moscato d'Asti, only Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains is used. The 2007 growing season yielded healthy, ripe grapes with an excellent balance of sugar and acidity. Harvesting was carried out manually in multiple passes, ensuring that only perfectly ripe grapes were selected. This strict selection is characteristic of Elio Perrone and guarantees the high quality of the wine.
fermentation and vinification process
After harvesting, the grapes are gently pressed to preserve their delicate aromas. The juice is then slowly cooled and fermented in stainless steel tanks under controlled conditions. Fermentation is stopped early by cooling, maintaining a low alcohol content of around 5% and allowing the natural grape juice to retain its sweet, fruity character. The slight effervescence (frizzante) is achieved by bottling under pressure. Aging in oak is not a factor here, allowing the fresh, aromatic style to fully express itself.
character of the 2007 elio perrone moscato d'asti magnum
The 2007 vintage is now one of the estate's older wines, over 15 years old. This makes it all the more exciting to see how this bottle has developed. Moscato is known for its youthful charm, but in magnum format, the wine develops more slowly and retains its freshness longer. This increases the likelihood that the wine will still be vibrant and expressive, with subtle additional layers developed through aging.
In the glass, the wine displays a straw-yellow color with golden hues. The nose is inviting, with aromas of orange blossom, white peach, honey, and a hint of sage. The palate reveals ripe tropical fruit, mandarin, and floral nuances, complemented by a vibrant freshness and a soft mousse. The balance of sweetness and acidity creates a harmonious and refined experience. The finish is delicate, leaving a slightly spicy note.
the advantage of the magnum version
A magnum bottle offers not only a festive presentation but also a tangible advantage for the wine's development. The larger size allows for slower and more even aging, resulting in a longer shelf life and a wider drinking window. For a wine like Moscato d'Asti, this means that the fresh aromas and fine bubbles are preserved longer, while simultaneously adding subtle complexity.
sensory characteristics of this wine
Colour: bright straw yellow with lively brilliance.
Nose: Floral aromas of acacia and orange blossom, combined with ripe peach and light honey notes.

In Italy you don't just leave the family business. So Stefano Perrone, former Italian motocross champion, also went overboard. In the Piedmont, this family has been making delicious Moscato wines for generations. The 13 hectares of vineyards on the hills of Castiglione Tinella are mainly planted with barbera, moscato and brachetto (an almost forgotten native grape, also called the red moscato). Winemaker Stefano Perrone, since he took over in 1989, has ensured that the quality of the grapes has risen considerably and modernized the techniques in the wine cellar.
