Description
Former Italian motocross champion Stefano Perrone, from Castiglione Tinella in the heart of the 'Moscato area' in Piedmont, makes the most delicious wines. Stefano's specialty is the feather-light, sparkling dessert wines from the moscato grape and beautiful red wines, with his Elip Perrone NO now one of the cult wines of Italy.
The Elio Perrone Mongovone is made from 100% Barbera grapes that mature for 12 months in small new French oak barrels. The Barbera d'Asti Superiore Mongovone 2020 is a full, lush beauty. It offers a heady concoction of blackberry jam, cloves, frankincense, chocolate espresso and sweet French oak. The style is one of flamboyance, and yet all the elements come together so effortlessly. Very elegant in structure, with a perfect balance between the fruit, tannin and finesse. Give it a year or two to lose some of your baby fat. The Mongovovone is produced in a unique bottle with equally unique capacity sizes because this wine is available in a 1 liter and 0.5 liter bottle. This is the 1 liter bottle.

From: Piedmont Within Reach (Dec 2022)
The 2020 Barbera d'Asti Superiore Mongovone is a full-bodied, opulent beauty. It offers up a heady concoction of blackberry jam, cloves, incense, chocolate espresso and sweet French oak. The style is one of flamboyance, and, yet, all the elements come together so effortlessly. This deep, fleshy Barbera is a knockout. Give it a year or two to shed some of its baby fat.

In Italy you don't just leave the family business. So Stefano Perrone, former Italian motocross champion, also went overboard. In the Piedmont, this family has been making delicious Moscato wines for generations. The 13 hectares of vineyards on the hills of Castiglione Tinella are mainly planted with barbera, moscato and brachetto (an almost forgotten native grape, also called the red moscato). Winemaker Stefano Perrone, since he took over in 1989, has ensured that the quality of the grapes has risen considerably and modernized the techniques in the wine cellar.
