Weingut Rainer Heil is an exclusive yet very small winery that produces wines with an almost unprecedented aging potential, where almost everything is still done by hand. In our Hidden Cellar Collection, we even have vintages from the early 1990s that we've had re-corked, and whose wines have developed an unparalleled beauty after 30 years. Rainer intervenes very little, letting nature take its course. His style is quite unique, as Rainer dislikes harsh acidity in his wines, so he lets the grapes hang much longer than his colleagues in the Mosel region. Besides his white wines, his red Pinot Noirs are simply superb and elegant. The only problem is that on his mere 7.5 hectares, he has only small vineyards in the most beautiful locations, and he makes around 40 different wines, so do the math yourself. The 1994 Brauneberger Juffer Riesling Auslese Trocken from Weingut Rainer Heil is an exceptional, classic dry Mosel Riesling with over 30 years of aging. The wines have always been stored in a deep, cool cellar and have even withstood the Mosel's floodwaters more than 15 times, contributing to their unique terroir expression and character.
This wine perfectly showcases the elegance and minerality of the steep Juffer vineyard, combined with the complexity that only decades of aging can achieve. In the glass, it reveals a deep golden yellow color with subtle amber reflections. The nose opens delicately with ripe stone fruit, apricot, citrus, and a light minerality. The vineyards of Weingut Rainer Heil are situated on steep slopes along the Mosel River. The most famous sites include Brauneberger Juffer, Juffer Sonnenuhr, Mandelgraben, and Klostergarten. Here, the typical slate soil (Schiefer) gives the wines freshness, tension, and minerality. Thanks to the Mosel’s warmth and the reflection of sunlight off the river, the grapes ripen slowly, allowing aromas to develop fully. The result: wines with finesse that never tire the palate.
