The Dutchman Ruud Maasdam emigrated to New Zealand in 1996 to start his own wine estate. After extensive research, each plot was laid out with a particular wine style in mind.
For years now, this has produced very individual, characteristic wines of an exceptionally high quality level that have certainly not escaped the international wine press. The American wine magazine Wine Spectator recently ranked its Sauvignon among New Zealand's top ten! Sauvignon is still best known here, but the planting of Pinot Noir is increasing strongly and grapes such as Chardonnay, Riesling and Pinot Gris are also doing remarkably well here.
