The Sauvignon Blanc wines from the small wine district of the Loire Valley of Quincy have a reputation for being slightly lighter than the more famous Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé versions of the same variety. Still, Quincy's more affordable wines are rapidly growing in popularity.
The variation in styles is probably mainly due to the addition of Sauvignon Gris, which is allowed in Quincy but not allowed in the other two regions. Another reason has to do with the difference in the soil. Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé's contain limestone, while Quincy's has alluvial sand and gravel soils due to its location between the Loire and the tributary of the Cher. The wines are generally less tight and slightly more fruity than the Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé, which are also made from the Sauvignon blanc.
