Pernand-Vergelesses is a commune in the French department of Côte-d'Or and has 292 inhabitants. The place is part of the Beaune arrondissement. The small village of Pernand-Vergelesses (160 ha) is somewhat hidden in a valley and borders directly on Aloxe-Corton. The name Pernand comes from "lost spring" and Vergelesses is a reference to the premier cru vineyard 'Les Vergelesses'. Although the village produces significantly more red wine than white, the white is also very attractive.

The nearby hill of Corton guards it and two other villages, Aloxe-Corton and Ladoix-Serrigny, which are home to prestigious Grands Crus: Corton in red and Corton-Charlemangne in white. Pernand with its rolling terrain and steep streets has a smiling face. It has an important place in French cultural history: Jacques Copeau (1879-1949), a driving force behind the French theatrical renaissance of the 1920s and promoter of a “decentralised” dramatic tradition, spent much of his life here and it was Pernand who saw the birth of the "Copiaus", a group of great actors whose work and whose spirit lives on today.

Most vineyards face east or south and a few face northeast. Altitudes: 250-300 meters. On the lower slopes, clayey limestone soils are mixed with "chaillots" (flint-like remains of siliceous limestone). These soils are easy to work and rich in potassium and phosphoric acid. Halfway up the slope, the pebbly limestone soils follow the Pinot Noir, and at the top the brown or yellowish marl soil for the Chardonnay.
