Much of its success is due to the Tumbarumba Vignerons Associates (TVA), a group of local grape growers who specialize in a range of grapes that thrive in the area. The two champagne grapes Pinot Noir and Chardonnay have the greatest success here for both still and sparkling wine. In fact, they are responsible for 80% of the area's grapes, with the addition of Pinot Gris, Pinot Meunier, Sauvignon Blanc, Gamay, Tempranillo and Viognier. While there are nearly 300 acres of vines in the region, the majority of the grapes are sold to larger companies, with only a handful of local, small wineries making their own wine.
