Gevrey-Chambertin is the largest wine-producing village in the Burgundy Côte d'Or. Located in the far north of the Côtes de Nuits, the classic style is typically deeper in color, firmer in body, and more tannic in texture than most red Burgundy. While there have been numerous underperformers here in the past, the overall quality is now higher than ever and can best develop into the most complete and long-lived Pinot Noir in the world.

A typical Gevrey-Chambertin is in the first blush of youth, their color is a bright ruby, changing to deep crimson or dark cerise with age. Strawberry, mulberry, violet, mignonette and rose all help to form their bouquet of spontaneous aromas. More maturity brings out licorice, leather, and fur, with game-like notes and hints of undergrowth. In the mouth, they impress with their firm structure, velvety tannins, and delicate texture. These wines are everything a great Burgundy should be: full-bodied, powerful, rich, and fleshy. They have both body and mind. Pleasantly drunk "on the fruit" young, they are primarily wines to mature, often for long periods. As such, they provide an excellent basis for comparing different vintages.
