Description
history of Van Nahmen
The Van Nahmen family business, located in Hamminkeln, Germany, is rooted in decades of fruit and juice production. Since 2007, they have been producing single-variety juices (not concentrates) to preserve the distinctive flavor of each fruit. In addition to classic juices, Van Nahmen introduced the Fruit Secco line: sparkling drinks with 0% alcohol, designed as an alternative to an aperitif. This line offers refinement, freshness, and a layered aroma, using only fruit without added alcohol.
region, cultivation and organic certification
For this apple-quince cuvée, Van Nahmen uses only organic, certified fruit. The apples and quince are harvested in the autumn (September & October). The combination of the juiciness of the apple and the pronounced acidity of the quince creates a dynamic balance. As a producer, Van Nahmen emphasizes its commitment to regional partners and regions where growing conditions—soil, temperature, and day-night variations—are favorable for aromatic development.
Production
The product is a cuvée of apple and quince, where the fruit is pressed and carbon dioxide (CO₂) is added to create that sparkle. There is no fermentation, so no alcohol is produced. The aim is to preserve the original aromas through careful processing, controlled temperatures, and minimal technique. The result is a dry, fruity aperitif, where the balance between fruitiness, freshness, and finish is paramount.
color, smell and taste profile
In the glass, the Fruit Secco displays a golden yellow hue, clear and slightly sparkling. The nose reveals aromas of ripe autumn apples, citrus zest, candied ginger, a hint of jasmine, and a soft mint note. On the palate, the attack is soft yet fresh; you first taste the fruity sweetness of apple, followed by the pronounced acidity of quince, which sharpens the palate. The finish is crisp and dry, with subtle minerality and a hint of tannin, creating structure. This Fruit Secco is reminiscent of a mature Riesling cuvée in its balance of fruitiness, freshness, and length.
use as an aperitif and gastronomic alternative
This apple-quince Fruit Secco is perfect for moments when you want something sparkling without alcohol. It works beautifully as a starter to a dinner or with smaller dishes: appetizers, fresh salads, desserts, or fruit. Thanks to its dry style and distinct aromatic qualities, it can also serve as a gourmet alternative in high-end settings. In top restaurants, you often see such non-alcoholic drinks appear alongside wines on the menu.
distinguishing features
What distinguishes this Secco is the combination of two aromatic fruits (apple and quince) into an elegant, sparkling composition. The dry style, exclusive use of organic ingredients, and controlled CO₂ make it a refined alternative to classic sparkling wines. For those interested in subtle flavor nuances, it's captivating to taste how the ginger notes, chalky minerality, and light tannins contribute to the experience. This product gives a glimpse of how non-alcoholic beverages can rival wines in terms of structure and complexity.
