Château Palmer Historical XIXth Century Wine LOT 20.21

In the 19th century it was common at that time to "hermit" the wines. Bordeaux châteaux would add to their wines a certain amount of wine from the Rhône - especially from the Hermitage region - the syrah of which would enhance the structure and strength of the claret. In the 21st century, Château Palmer came up with the idea to bring this forgotten tradition back to life. The aim is to create a unique wine, combining wine from Palmer and a small part of a great wine from the northern Côtes du Rhône whose origins are kept secret by Thomas Duroux. The blend is: 49% Merlot - 39% Cabernet Sauvignon -12% Syrah and the production is only 3,000 bottles, so extremely scarce. All individually packed in a wooden box. This is what the Chateau says: "....Is this still a Bordeaux wine? It's better; a revitalization drawing on elsewhere to re-en-chant the here and now"

ABOUT PALMER

Classified as a 3ieme Cru Classe 1855, Château Palmer consistently outperforms the rest of the wines in its class and is widely regarded as one of the best wines of the Médoc. Château Palmer was founded in the first half of the nineteenth century by the English general, Charles Palmer. In 1814, on his way back from the Peninsula War, where he had fought with Wellington against Napoleon, General Palmer acquired the castle of Gascq and gave it his own name. In 1938, the Sichel family joined forces with a group of wine merchant friends to purchase the property.
