The 2025 Lenzmark New Chapter Grüner Veltliner Elevated is a strikingly refined and modern interpretation of Grüner Veltliner. This wine combines freshness, tension, and elegance with a clear focus on balance and precision. A subtle addition of Riesling creates extra finesse and aromatic lift, immediately distinguishing this wine from classic Grüner styles.
International wine critics were already very complimentary about the regular New Chapter (e.g. Suckling with 95/100) – these wines are different from the norm and can best be summarized as elegant Grüner Veltliner with a Bordeaux (or, as some wine critics used, Burgundy)-like touch. It is therefore entirely justified that this wine bears the name New Chapter, and that certainly applies to this New Chapter Elevated.
Lenzmark Winery / New Chapter
New Chapter was founded in 2020 with a clear ambition: to reposition Grüner Veltliner on an international level. The project combines the 15 generations of experience of the Lenz family with the expertise of Markus Huber, one of Austria's leading white winemakers. Their shared vision is not only to promote their own wines but also to act as ambassadors for the grape, region, and country. The focus is on innovation and creating a new style that appeals worldwide, based on the principle of “tomorrow’s Grüner today”. More information about this winery can be found under the Winery tab.
The wine and the concept Elevated
The name Elevated does not refer to a higher line within the range, but rather to a deliberate step towards greater elegance and refinement. The idea behind this wine is to give Grüner Veltliner a new dimension, with tension and finesse at the forefront. This is achieved through a small addition of Riesling, less than 15 percent, which provides extra freshness, aromatic complexity, and a refined structure.
The concept originated from the ambition to make Grüner Veltliner more appealing worldwide, with a style that is more accessible without compromising on character. The combination of tradition and innovation makes this wine special both within Austria and beyond.
Vineyard, terroir and vintage 2025
The grapes originate from the Traisental, a region west of Vienna situated on the southern bank of the Danube. This area is known for its calcareous soils, consisting of limestone with a layer of loam. This combination is essential for producing elegant and refined wines with distinct minerality. The 2025 vintage enjoyed ideal ripening conditions and a slightly later start to the harvest within the normal timeframe. This resulted in a wine with lively fruit, striking elegance, and beautiful depth. According to the producer, 2025 yields a classic Austrian style, combining freshness and ripeness.
Vinification and aging
After destemming, a short maceration of approximately eight hours follows, after which fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks. The wine further ages in barriques and large oak barrels and remains in contact with the yeasts until bottling. This approach ensures a clean style while retaining freshness, whereas the lees contact adds extra texture and complexity.
Color, smell and taste
Bright light yellow in color with a slight green reflection. On the nose, fresh aromas of yellow peach, ripe apple, and citrus, complemented by subtle spiciness and light exotic notes. On the palate, the liveliness is immediately noticeable, with fresh acidity and an elegant, mineral structure. The wine has a silky mouthfeel and a distinct tension that is enhanced by the addition of Riesling. Towards the finish, a juicy, slightly ripe note emerges, inviting the next sip. The finish is long, precise, and balanced.

Score: 95
Vintage: 2024
This white-Bordeaux-inspired wine shows a compelling harmony of bright orchard fruit, primarily apples and peaches, with fine tannins and subtle wood tones of toast and vanilla. The medium-bodied palate is impeccably balanced, the freshness illuminating the pronounced stony minerality in the very long, complete finish. Aged in oak and stainless steel. From organically grown grapes. Vegan. Drink or hold.

Flaskehalsen | MORTEN WAMSLER | 97 pts
“This is Grüner Veltliner on a whole new level. Created by the great Lenz Moser, this is an insanely beautiful Grüner Veltliner, which naturally also places itself in the heavy price range. But it's so elegant, structured, fresh and balanced that you can't say the least about the pricing. This is Grüner Veltliner, which hits both the connoisseur and those who just want an exceptional, yet easily understandable glass of royal white wine.”
Ekstra Bladet | THOMAS RYDBERG | 95 pts
“BEST WINE OF THE WEEK - New super wine from Markus Huber and Lenz Moser. Crisp and acidic with a nicely balanced taste of apple, flint, white pepper and vanilla. Convincingly beautiful and exciting wine with a long, crisp and lingering finish.”
Mad & Monopolet | MAD SCHYTTE | 95 pts
"New Chapter" and new standards perhaps? Particularly excellent Gruener Veltliner. On the nose, notes of grapefruit, citrus, mandarin, vanilla and a slight hint of pepper. The wine is dry, acidic, complex with a full body and creamy taste of delicate fruit, where the work has been done well to ensure that the dish does not take over, but instead creates the perfect balance.”
James Suckling | STUART PIGOTT | 94 pts
"This very expressive Gruener Veltliner has so much to say for itself, but is so easy to understand. The cornucopia of yellow grapefruit, Amalfi lemon and white peach aromas pull you in and, with aeration, notes of lemon balm and spring meadow make it even more enticing. Stunning balance of brilliant fruit, discreet creaminess and mineral acidity on the precisely contoured, medium-bodied palate. Long, very pure finish.”
Falstaff | ULRICH SAUTTER & PETER MOSER | 94 pts
“Light greenish yellow with silver reflections. There is an undertone of fresh meadow herbs to the aromas of Golden Delicious apple, touches of mango, tangerine zest and a mineral touch. Juicy and elegant on the palate, with notes of ripe stone fruit, it is full-bodied without being opulent, with fine, lively acidity, good length and a slightly saline finish. An ideal representative of the variety.”
NEW Decanter | SYLVIA WU | 93 pts
“A delicious and characterful Grüner Veltliner from Niederösterreich (mostly Traisental), created by Austrian winemakers Markus Huber and Lenz Moser. Fully destemmed, followed by 8 hours of cold soak before fermentation in stainless steel tanks. A charming nose of yellow apple, ripe peach, acacia blossom and a hint of earthy dried herbs. Saline and mineral on the palate, with lemon and lime zest on the attack, lead to hidden layers of ripe yellow fruits. A touch of spices and honey on the long finish.”

Markus Huber and Lenz Moser are united in their goal to bring Gruener Veltliner to the world as Austria's preeminent and ambassador grape variety. Both partners have learned that you have to fight for the region, for the category, in addition to working for your own company. They know that it always takes a higher cause to be successful.
The goal of Markus and Lenz is now to create a new Gruener Veltliner to be brought to the entire wine-loving world (including outside the German-speaking world ;-). Their clear goal is to help and develop this grape into a global ambassador for top Austrian winemaking.
Lenz & Markus have lived and breathed Gruener their entire lives. When they decided to start this exciting new project (NEW CHAPTER), they set out on a mission to improve this Austrian treasure to make it even more delicate for the international market and make this naturally top grape just another Burgundy. to give style upbringing, so a longer maturation, partly in wood, but while retaining the naturally spicy tones and good acidity.
The family estate of Markus Huber, 10th generation, is located in Traisental, an hour's drive west of Vienna, in the heart of the Grüner region. The estate is 100% organic, 60 hectares in size and 70% planted with Grüner Veltliner. Markus is THE specialist and awarded best winemaker of the year in Austria. The wine is a blend of Markus' best vineyards of the Traisental region, and the idea is to create a white wine that can compete with the best wines in the world, in a style that is powerful but not opulent and with a focus on elegance.
