Winery

Château Haut-Brion is one of Bordeaux's most legendary wineries and is one of the five original Premiers Grands Crus Classés from the 1855 classification. In addition to its world-famous red wine, the estate produces an extremely rare white wine considered by connoisseurs to be one of the greatest dry white wines of France. Production is very limited, and the wine enjoys cult status worldwide. Thanks to the combination of an exceptional terroir, meticulous vineyard selection, and a long tradition of top quality, Château Haut-Brion Blanc belongs to the absolute elite of the wine world. You can find more information about this winery in the Winery tab.

Origin and terroir

The grapes come from the historic vineyards of Château Haut-Brion in Pessac-Léognan. The soil consists of deep gravel deposits with clay and sand underneath. This unique composition ensures excellent drainage and gives the wine its characteristic combination of concentration, minerality, and refinement. The proximity of the Atlantic Ocean provides cooling during the growing season, allowing the grapes to retain their freshness. In 2025, the dry conditions resulted in small grapes with exceptional aromatic intensity and concentration.

Grapes and vineyard management

The 2025 Château Haut-Brion Blanc consists of 53% Sauvignon Blanc and 47% Sémillon. The harvest took place between August 14 and 21, a particularly early picking necessary to maintain the optimal balance between ripeness and freshness. The grapes were carefully selected and processed separately to bring out the character of each plot to the fullest. Thanks to low yields and the exceptional quality of the fruit, this vintage is among the most concentrated of recent years.

Vinification and aging

After careful pressing, the grapes are fermented in French oak barrels. Subsequently, the wine ages on its fine lees in a combination of new and used French oak barrels, with approximately 45% new wood being used. During this sur lie aging, the wine develops extra texture, depth, and aromatic complexity. The maturation is carried out with utmost precision to perfectly preserve the balance between fruit, freshness, and wood. The result is a wine of exceptional refinement and an impressive structure.

Color, smell and taste

The wine has a brilliant light yellow color with golden reflections. On the nose, aromas of white flowers, acacia, elderflower, and ripe citrus fruits unfold, complemented by subtle notes of sweet spices. As the wine opens up, nuances of white peach, candied lemon, brioche, and mineral accents appear. On the palate, the wine combines power with precision. The structure is compact, layered, and refined at the same time. The fresh acidity provides tension and energy, while the rich texture ensures depth. The finish is exceptionally long, mineral, and complex.

Style and character

Château Haut-Brion Blanc belongs to a category of its own. The wine combines the aromatic precision of Sauvignon Blanc with the richness and aging potential of Sémillon. The 2025 displays a strikingly refined and detailed style, with great tension and elegance. Despite its youth, the wine already possesses an impressive balance between concentration, freshness, and length. This is a wine that will continue to develop over decades.

Volume

The 2025 vintage was marked by extreme weather conditions, but thanks to meticulous vineyard management and patience during the harvest, a wine of exceptional quality was produced. The small grapes yielded a high concentration of aromas and flavor compounds. Within the château, this vintage is regarded as one of the most promising of the past decades. The alcohol content is 14.55%. The expected drinking window runs from 2030 to 2055, during which further bottle aging will develop additional complexity, depth, and tertiary aromas.

Food and wine pairings

This wine pairs excellently with lobster, langoustines, turbot, sole, and other refined seafood dishes. Poultry with creamy sauces, veal, and truffle dishes also complement the wine's richness and complexity beautifully. Thanks to the combination of power and freshness, Haut-Brion Blanc is also an impressive accompaniment to gastronomic dishes with Asian influences.

Château Haut-Brion is located in the French municipality of Pessac, a few kilometers southwest of the city of Bordeaux. Haut-Brion is the oldest and historically the most colorful Gironde winery - it was here that the first Bordeaux was made from a single vineyard in the 17th century, first donated in London coffee houses and praised by many leading writers. In 1935, the winery was bought by Clarence Dillon, an American banker. He invested large sums in the renovation of the chai and the vineyard. In 1960, Haut-Brion became the first premier cru, replacing the wooden barrels with stainless steel tanks. In 1983, the Dillon family bought the adjacent Château la Mission Haut-Brion.

The vineyard covers an area of 51 hectares of which just over 48 hectares are planted with red grape varieties (Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot) and just under 3 hectares are dedicated to white grape varieties (Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc).
