EXCLUSIVE - DELIVERY SPRING 2028
Château Grand-Puy Ducasse is one of the most striking risers from Pauillac. The 2025 demonstrates how strongly the château has developed over the past few years, with more precision, refinement, and terroir expression than ever before. The result is a classic Pauillac in which power, elegance, and balance come together.
The 2025 Château Grand-Puy Ducasse confirms the upward trend.
The 2025 Château Grand-Puy Ducasse demonstrates how strongly the château has developed over the past few years. Thanks to investments in the vineyard and the new gravity cellar, work is being carried out with increasing precision, resulting in a wine that displays more precision, balance, and refinement than ever before.
The blend consists of 66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Merlot, and 3% Petit Verdot. With a yield of only 31 hl/ha, 2025 is one of the estate's more concentrated vintages. What makes this wine special is the combination of classic Pauillac structure with a remarkably refined texture.
Classic Pauillac with blackcurrant, graphite, and cedar.
In the glass, the wine opens with aromas of cassis, blackcurrants, blackberries, and dark cherries. These are followed by typical Pauillac notes of graphite, cedarwood, and tobacco, complemented by nuances of violets, lavender, liquorice, and subtle spices. As the wine develops further in the glass, notes of cocoa, mint, and a light smokiness also emerge.
The fruit takes center stage but is supported by sufficient complexity and depth. The aromatic precision ensures that every layer remains clearly recognizable without the wine feeling heavy or sluggish.
Fine tannins and impressive balance
While Grand-Puy Ducasse was formerly sometimes known for a somewhat stricter style, in 2025 it is primarily the refinement of the tannins that stands out. The structure is present, but the tannins are fine-grained and silky. The ripe black fruit is supported by fresh acidity, allowing the wine to retain tension and energy.
The balance between fruit, wood, acidity, and tannins is remarkably successful. The wine has sufficient concentration for long-term aging, yet simultaneously possesses an accessible character that makes it attractive within the context of the vintage. The finish is long, clean, and classic Pauillac, with notes of dark berries, graphite, spices, and a subtle savory touch.
One of the most convincing vintages of Grand-Puy Ducasse
The 2025 is regarded by many connoisseurs as a new benchmark for the château. The wine combines the aristocratic allure of Pauillac with modern precision and an exceptional level of harmony. The combination of ripe fruit, refined tannins, fresh acidity, and terroir expression results in a complete wine that perfectly underscores the estate's progress.
For lovers of classic Bordeaux, this is a particularly interesting Grand Cru Classé that demonstrates the immense potential Grand-Puy Ducasse possesses.

James Suckling
(Score 95-96) Medium- to full-bodied with precise, delineated fruit. There is a savory touch and a firm finish, with overall balance between structure and fruit. Finesse through but plenty behind. A blend of 66% cabernet sauvignon, 31% merlot and 3% petit verdot.

Vinous
(92-94) The 2025 Grand Puy Ducasse has a very succinct nose. At first, it feels maybe a bit underpowered, yet with a few swirls it reveals gorgeous blackberry, cedar and violet scents that blossom over time. The palate is medium-bodied with very lithe and supple tannins, well-judged acidity and commendable cohesion on the finish. This vastly improved Pauillac should be more approachable than some of its peers, yet it has the substance to age in bottle. Drinking Window: 2031 - 2055.

This winery has very special neighbors and is located between Château Mouton Rothschild, Château Lafite Rothschild and Château Pontet Canet. In 1972 wine merchant Mestrezat took care of this somewhat drowsy Château. Substantial investments followed in both cellars and vineyards. In 1992 the mechanical harvest was completely abolished. Strict hand selection followed. The percentage of new oak casks was increased in the completely new cellar. The total area is now 45 ha with plots adjacent to Château Batailley and Lafite- and Mouton Rothschild. Major steps have been taken since the takeover, resulting in a worthy 5th Grand Cru ranking and the volumes in the peak years are particularly interesting from a price point of view.
