This cru has belonged to the Nony family since 1934. Damien and Jean-Antoine Nony now continue the business. For this price, it is difficult to find a better St. Emilion in terms of volume and roundness. The terroir is partly at the foot of the plateau and partly on the plateau itself. Michel Roland and Louis Mitjavile (l'Aurage) are the advisors.
The Château Grand Mayne is matured for 18 months in oak barrels, 60% of which are new. The wine is a blend of 80% Merlot / 20% Cabernet Franc. The average age of the vines is 35 years. The taste of the wine can best be described as classy and elegant with black cherry and cassis. Opaque purple-black in colour, the 2020 Grand Mayne unfolds slowly in the glass to reveal beautiful notes of ripe black plums, dark chocolate-covered cherries and blackberry tart, plus hints of liquorice, cracked black pepper and unsmoked cigars. The medium to full-bodied palate is packed with rich black fruit, supported by ripe, rounded tannins and just the right amount of freshness, finishing long and beautifully perfumed.
Source: https://grand-mayne.com "A wine must reflect its terroir, its origins. We strongly believe that the uniqueness of the vineyard's location is fundamental in the conception of a great wine. There can never be a great wine without a great vineyard." Jean-Antoine & Damien NONY In this respect, the wines of Château Grand Mayne are completely expressive of their place of origin. They are proud representatives of the best terroirs of the western hillside and foot of St. Émilion, composed of clay and limestone. A subtle blend of merlot and cabernet franc, the wines of Grand Mayne combine the power of fruit, elegant tension and finesse. Known for their excellent aging potential, the recent vintages of Château Grand Mayne are now more open and accessible in their early years. "

The 2025 Grand Mayne reveals a fresh, expressive bouquet of dark berries, cassis and mulberries, becoming more floral with aeration. Medium- to full-bodied, it’s supple and enveloping, with a velvety texture and a refined, well-defined tannic frame, concluding with a fresh, elegant finish marked by dark berry nuances. This is a more restrained, finely tuned expression than in previous vintages, aligning closely with the estate’s recent stylistic evolution.

Solid, well framed and dense. Dark berry and warm spice aromas follow through to a medium body with chewy tannins. Plenty of purple fruit character on the palate, with a chewy finish. 62% merlot and 38% cabernet franc.

From: Hot Body, Cold Blood: 2025 Bordeaux En Primeur (May 2026)
The 2025 Grand Mayne is very refined and poised on the nose, fresher than many of its Right Bank peers, with red berry fruit, cedar and subtle sous-bois scents. The palate is framed by very supple tannins, matched by a keen line of acidity, lightly spiced, very cohesive, with a prolonged and elegant finish. Just a great Saint-Émilion 2025 that should age with style.
- By Neal Martin on May 2026
Proprietor Jean-Antoine Nony explained, “The blend for the 2025 vintage is quite unusual. The proportion of Cabernet Franc is the highest it has been since the 1960s. This is due to two main factors: firstly, we had surprisingly good yields from our Cabernet Franc, and second, a parcel planted a few years ago has reached a particularly high level of quality, so we can now include it in the Grand Vin. We have started vinifying part of our Cabernet Franc with whole clusters, and this constitutes 4% of the blend. Also, I have produced a special cuvée for the first time that will not be released en primeur. It is 100% Cabernet Franc with 20% whole clusters, sourced from the oldest parcel of Grand Mayne, planted in 1957 by my grandfather from massal selection. Total production will be 1,800 bottles.”
