Winery
Château Figeac is one of the most iconic estates in Saint-Émilion and holds the prestigious status of Premier Grand Cru Classé A. The château has a history dating back to Roman times and distinguishes itself through a unique location on the border of Saint-Émilion and Pomerol. Figeac sets itself apart from many other estates in the appellation due to the high proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc in the vineyards. This gives the wine a distinct character of its own, with more structure, freshness, and aging potential. Under the leadership of director Frédéric Faye, Figeac currently ranks among the absolute world elite. You can find more information about this winery in the Winery tab.
Origin and terroir
The terroir of Figeac is among the most exceptional in Saint-Émilion. The vineyards lie on three large gravel ridges, beneath which lie the characteristic blue clay layers that have made the estate world-renowned. This combination played a crucial role during the warm and dry growing season of 2025. The deep clay soils retained sufficient moisture, while the gravelly topsoil ensured optimal drainage and even ripening of the grapes. As a result, Figeac was able to retain its distinctive freshness and elegance, even in a warm year.
Grapes and vineyard management
The 2025 consists of 38% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc, and 32% Cabernet Sauvignon. Notably, no less than 90% of the total production was selected for the Grand Vin, an exceptionally high percentage for a wine of this level. The yield was only 25 hectoliters per hectare, resulting in small, concentrated grapes with great aromatic intensity. To preserve freshness, defoliation was deliberately not applied, and the height of the canopy was kept limited. The harvest took place between September 1 and 19.
Vinification and aging
After the harvest, the grapes underwent extensive cold maceration for six to eight days to gently extract aromas, color, and fine tannins. Subsequently, slow and controlled fermentations took place to achieve maximum precision. The wine was kept on the skins for approximately three weeks for added structure and complexity. Aging takes place entirely in new French oak barrels. During this maturation, sur lie aging contributes to extra depth, texture, and refinement. Thanks to the precise vinification, the influence of the wood remains perfectly integrated into the fruit.
Color, smell and taste
The wine displays a deep ruby red color with purple reflections. On the nose, aromas of cassis, blackcurrants, ripe cherries, and wild strawberries unfold, complemented by graphite, pencil shavings, tobacco, cocoa, violets, peony, mint, and subtle spices. The taste combines concentration with remarkable refinement. The tannins are silky and very fine-grained, while fresh acidity provides tension and energy. The mid-palate is rich and layered, with a striking purity of fruit. The long finish is characterized by minerality, salinity, and impressive precision.
Style and character
The 2025 Figeac is one of the most classic and at the same time most complete editions from the château in recent years. The wine combines the aristocratic structure of Cabernet Sauvignon with the refinement of Cabernet Franc and the roundness of Merlot. Despite the concentration, everything remains harmonious and elegant. The wine possesses an almost effortless balance between power, freshness, and finesse. Many connoisseurs already consider this vintage one of the great successes of Bordeaux 2025.
Volume
The 2025 growing season was characterized by warm and dry conditions. Thanks to a period of rain in April and additional rainfall during the summer, the vines' water balance remained in equilibrium. High daytime temperatures alternated with cool nights, resulting in extra aromatic complexity and freshness. The grapes reached excellent phenolic ripeness without excessive alcohol levels. The alcohol content is 13%. The expected drinking window runs from 2033 to 2065, with further aging likely adding even more depth and complexity.
Food and wine pairings
This Saint-Émilion pairs beautifully with rack of lamb, ribeye veal, côte de boeuf, and refined game dishes. Dishes with black truffle, mushrooms, or slow-cooked beef also complement the wine's complexity perfectly. Thanks to its fresh structure and refined tannins, it remains elegant alongside rich dishes.

The 2025 Figeac shows exceptional potential, unwinding in the glass with aromas of ripe cherries and minty blackberries mingled with sweet spices, pencil lead and burning embers. Medium- to full-bodied, dense and deep, with terrific concentration, sweet tannins, bright acids and a long, penetrating finish, this integrated and balanced Figeac is a serious wine, built for the long haul. Fully 90% of production went into the grand vin this year, and it's a blend of 38% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc and 32% Cabernet Sauvignon.

A dense yet open-grained red. It’s layered, with dusty tannins that give it a velvety texture and a medium- to full-bodied palate with plum, currant and cedar flavors. Juicy. 13% alcohol. Merlot, cabernet franc and cabernet sauvignon.

From: Hot Body, Cold Blood: 2025 Bordeaux En Primeur (May 2026)
The 2025 Figeac was cropped at 25 hl/ha between 1 and September, matured entirely in new oak as usual. The Cabernet components shape the aromatics at the moment, with a mixture of blackberry and wild strawberry fruit, touches of tobacco and dark powdered chocolate, all very precise and, if anything, remarkably understated considering the warmth of that summer. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine, slightly granular tannins. Darker fruit than normal, nicely structured, linear and correct, this is a Figeac that veers towards the more elegant side in Saint-Émilion. Just a touch of bitterness on the finish neatly counterbalances the contained opulence. If it ends up at the top of my banded score, I would not be surprised. 13.1% alcohol.

Château Figeac is a renowned winery located in the Saint-Émilion appellation on the right bank of the Bordeaux wine region in France.
History of Château Figeac
Château Figeac has a long and rich history, dating back to the 2nd century, when it was originally a Roman villa. The estate has undergone several transformations over the centuries. In the 19th century, the estate came into the possession of the Manoncourt family, who played an important role in shaping its modern identity.
Vineyards and terroir of Château Figeac
The vineyards of Château Figeac cover approximately 40 hectares (approximately 99 acres) and are planted with mainly Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc grape varieties. The estate is known for its unique terroir, characterized by a combination of gravel, limestone and clay soils. This terroir contributes to the distinctive qualities of the wines produced.
Wine production of Château Figeac
Château Figeac is known for its traditional winemaking practices, which include hand-harvesting the grapes and using a combination of stainless steel and wooden fermentation vats. The estate produces a Grand Vin, the flagship wine, as well as a second wine called "Petit Figeac". The Grand Vin is the flagship wine and is typically a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. The exact blend may vary depending on the vintage. Petit Figeac is the second wine from Château Figeac, often made from younger vines or grapes that do not meet the criteria for Grand Vin. It provides a more accessible and approachable option at a younger age. Château Figeac has the status of Premier Grand Cru Classé (Class B) in the classification of Saint-Émilion wines. This classification recognizes the estate's consistent production of high quality wines. Château Figeac wines are highly regarded for their elegance, complexity and ability to age gracefully. They are often praised by wine critics and enthusiasts.
