Winery

Château Beau-Séjour Bécot belongs to the absolute elite of Saint-Émilion and has held Premier Grand Cru Classé A status since 2022. The estate is managed by the Bécot family and has developed into one of the appellation's benchmarks in recent years. The focus is entirely on the unique limestone plateau on which the vineyards are situated. Meticulous work in both the vineyard and the cellar produces wines known for their combination of power, minerality, and elegance. The past vintages have, without exception, been among the most highly regarded on the Right Bank. You can find more information about this winery in the Winery tab.

Origin and terroir

The vineyards are situated on the western limestone plateau of Saint-Émilion, in the former parish of Saint-Martin de Mazerat. The soil consists of clay on top of limestone, a combination that played a crucial role during the warm growing season of 2025. The limestone acts as a natural water buffer and gradually released moisture to the vines throughout the summer. This allowed the grapes to ripen slowly and evenly. This terroir gives Beau-Séjour Bécot its characteristic freshness, tension, and mineral signature.

Grapes and vineyard management

The 2025 blend consists of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. The average age of the vines is 29 years. Yields were limited to 32 hectoliters per hectare, resulting in small, concentrated grapes with thick skins and perfectly ripe tannins. Defoliation was deliberately avoided in the vineyard to prevent sunburn. Additionally, light cluster thinning, tillage under the vines, and a limited mowing policy were employed to reduce competition from grass growth and maintain sufficient freshness in the soil.

Vinification and aging

The Merlot was harvested between September 5 and 12, followed by Cabernet Franc on September 17 and 18. Each plot selection was vinified separately to maintain maximum precision. After a cold maceration of fifteen days, a long maceration of approximately 27 days followed. Extraction was deliberately kept gentle to preserve finesse and aromatic purity. The blend was assembled as early as January. The wine subsequently ages in a combination of 55% new French oak barrels, 4% amphorae, 4% year-old barrels, and 37% large 20-hectoliter oak foudres. During aging, sur lie aging contributes extra depth, texture, and complexity.

Color, smell and taste

The 2025 Beau-Séjour Bécot opens with a refined and complex aromatic profile of dark berries, plums, pomegranate, and red cherries. Additionally, there are floral notes of iris, lilac, rose petals, and lavender. Subtle nuances of mint, white pepper, chalk, and minerality provide extra depth. On the palate, the wine displays a silky texture with remarkable precision. The fruit is intense but never heavy. Fresh acidity and a pronounced briny minerality create tension. The tannins are fine and perfectly integrated. The long finish is supported by limestone, iron-like nuances, and an impressive purity.

Style and character

This vintage perfectly demonstrates why Beau-Séjour Bécot belongs to the elite of Saint-Émilion today. The wine combines concentration with elegance and possesses a refinement that is sometimes reminiscent of great Burgundy rather than classic Bordeaux. Despite the power of the vintage, the wine remains energetic, mineral, and exceptionally precise. The limestone soil takes center stage and gives the wine a unique identity.

Volume

The 2025 vintage experienced a mild winter, a balanced spring, and a warm but controlled summer. Thanks to the clay-limestone soils, the vines coped with the dry conditions without difficulty. A period of rain in late August ensured that ripening could be completed perfectly without excessive alcohol levels. The result is a wine with ripe tannins, lively acidity, great aromatic precision, and an alcohol percentage of only 13.5%. This Beau-Séjour Bécot undoubtedly belongs among the absolute top wines of Bordeaux 2025 and will develop beautifully between 2033 and 2065.

Food and wine pairings

This Saint-Émilion comes into its own perfectly with refined dishes with depth. Think of rack of lamb, ribeye veal, pigeon, venison, or dishes with black truffle. The wine also forms an excellent combination with mushrooms, slow-cooked beef, and classic French sauces. Thanks to its freshness and mineral tension, the wine remains elegant and precise even alongside rich dishes.
