Description

The Chenin Blanc Old Vines from Lievland Vineyards is made from grapes that come from vineyards in the Paarl region. After the harvest, the grapes are immediately destemmed and pressed in the vinification cellar. The juice is left to rest for about 24 hours in a cooled place, so that the coarser components can settle. After this, the clean juice is allowed to undergo alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks under controlled temperature (15°C). After 2 weeks, the young wine is partly transferred to clean stainless steel tanks and partly to used oak barriques, to which specially selected yeasts are added. After a few months of maturation, the wine is assembled, clarified, filtered and bottled.

The Chenin Blanc Old Vines from Lievland Vineyards is fresh and clear in the glass, light straw yellow in color. In the nose aromas of citrus fruit, melon, peach and a bit of beeswax. In the taste palette tones of lemon peel, apple, pineapple and a hint of coconut and almonds, which are accompanied by a fresh aftertaste with beautiful acids.

Riaan Möller - Head winemaker at Lievland: "South African wines are called wines from 'the new world', But with the long history of grape growing in the Cape, I think it's better to say that we find the perfect balance between new and old-fashioned styles. At Lievland Vineyards, we are fortunate to work with top-quality Stellenbosch terroir. We take classic varieties and make wines traditionally, striving for the perfect balance between old-fashioned elegance and bright fruit from the new world."
