Description
This delicious Inspector Peringuey Chenin Blanc comes from top winery Jordan from Stellenbosch, the most famous wine growing region of South Africa. Named after Louis Albert Péringuey, the 19th century Inspector-General of Vineyards in the Cape, who led the fight against phylloxera and oversaw the import of American rootstocks on which the various wine grapes were grafted.
The wine is barrel fermented for 8 months sur lie. On the nose this beautiful Chenin Blanc has delicious aromas of peach, pear and a hint of wood influence. In the mouth a nice soft structure, nice creamy but also fresh with light vanilla accent. This wine is well balanced and has beautiful acids and a mineral aftertaste. This Chenin Blanc tastes delicious as an aperitif and also goes well with (spicy) fried fish such as plaice, with pasta dishes green salads.
Stellenbosch is the most famous wine region in South Africa, Stellenbosch has the most top estates and is surrounded by mountains (Helderberg and Simonsberg) and has vineyards in every direction. Stellenbosch has the only university in South Africa with a viticulture department. Even though two-thirds of the vineyards are planted with white grapes, there is a growing awareness that Stellenbosch is destined for red wine.

Jordan Winery is professionally run by Gary and Kathy Jordan. Not only do they make excellent wines, Jordan's restaurant, bistro and guesthouses are also worth a visit.
Kathy and Gary Jordan, after both working abroad for two years, took over the domain purchased by Gary's parents in 1982 in 1992. Fortunately, Gary was already involved in the planting in the 1980s. Gary is a geologist and used his knowledge to analyze the terroir to ensure that each grape variety was planted in the right place. Today, Jordan benefits greatly from these choices. Their vines are now mature enough to provide fantastic complexity, while other producers are just beginning to plant the right vines in the right soil. Jordan is the only estate in Stellenbosch that has vineyards planted in every direction. It is a real family business where high quality wines have been made for years. They combine the ripe, concentrated and fruity accessibility of the New World and the complex structure of classic wines. The international appreciations are therefore enormous. For example, the flagship, the Nine Yards hardonnay, has already been named 'Best Chardonnay of the World' twice by the wine magazine Decanter and has also won the Proefschrift Wijnconcours. In 2014, even the 'regular' Barrel Fermented Chardonnay was crowned 'Best Chardonnay in the World' by Decanter! In addition, they also became South African 'Producer of the Year' at IWSC in 2014.
The wines from the Chameleon range have been produced by Jordan since 1993. With the proceeds of these wines, 4 research projects are currently being funded that focus their research on the Kaapse Dwerg Kameleon (Kaapse Dwerg Verkleurmannetjie in Afrikaans). The habitat of this small chameleon species is threatened by urbanization and intensive agriculture, causing more and more of the animal's natural habitat (fynbos) to disappear. By gaining more insight into the living pattern of these (hard to find) animals, it is hoped that they can be saved from extinction. The wines used for this range naturally have the quality one would expect from Gary and Cathy Jordan, but are especially made for the moments that call for wine for festive and relaxed moments; in other words, perfect for a braai with friends!
