Description
Michael Seresin was born in New Zealand, but now works as a filmmaker in London. Michael is a convinced supporter of everything bio and organic. The Seresin estate was founded in 1992. Both the vineyards and the olive trees are bio-certified.
The grapes for the Seresin - Sauvignon Blanc are sourced from the Raupo Creek Vineyard in the heart of the Omaka Valley, Marlborough. The vineyard is managed organically and biodynamically, with clay soils that contribute to the unique flavour profiles of the wine. After hand harvesting, seven parcels were processed separately. Approximately 90% of the juice fermented with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel tanks, while up to 30% was fermented in used French oak barrels. The barrel-fermented wine was matured on the lees for five months, further enhancing its texture and complexity.
The Seresin Sauvignon Blanc shows vibrant aromas with notes of white passion fruit and lemon balm, complemented by a savoury, leafy nuance thanks to the addition of 10% Sémillon. The palate is layered and textural, balanced by a slatey, mineral acidity. The use of indigenous yeasts and partial maturation on the lees in oak barrels contribute to the complexity and refinement of this Sauvignon Blanc.

From: 2023 New Zealand Whites: The Cyclone Vintage (Apr 2024)
Wild fermentation, a little bit of barrel-aging on lees and a 10% addition of Sémillon in the blend make the 2023 Sauvignon Blanc far from your stereotypical Marlborough style. This wine plays on its clarity, texture and freshness. It's aromatically subtle, with green notes meeting nectarine and blackcurrant. While the region's natural freshness abounds, the wine retains a round shape and natural curve before being sewn up by a thread of acidity. There are layers of interest here that will keep you coming back.
