Persoonlijke gegevens
When René Barbier brought the abandoned, very old "coster" (steeply sloping traditional Priorat vineyard) back into production, they thought they had acquired a plot of Carinyena (Carignan)... but to their great surprise, they discovered that 40% of the plot consisted of Garnatxa Peluda (indigenous Grenache). This grape ripens before Carinyena (Carignan) and adds more freshness. It was a coincidence, and a stroke of luck, because it was the final piece of the puzzle needed to bring the Bellvisos balance.
The Partida Pedrer belongs to the Bellvisos vineyard, but this part faces north, allowing the winemaker to capture the shaded freshness and sun-drenched morning warmth. With slightly less direct sunlight in a warm climate, this produces very elegant wines. The young plantation of Grenache and Cariñena (a very rare Priorat varietal) naturally creates a complex red and rosé. The only wine in the range that doesn't receive added sulfur during its lifetime is the rosé Partida Pedrer, a wine that required almost 17 months of fermentation, initially in used oak barrels and the final eight months in stainless steel to prevent the wine from becoming overly oak-dominant. This natural wine is produced using a direct pressing to achieve a subtle color. The nose is expressive and quite different from the average rosé. In fact, it is more of a blanc de noirs and has the profile of a white wine. It has a serious flavor with excellent balance, savory aromas, and a dry finish. Bottled in May 2024, it wasn't released until early 2025 after bottle maturation, and fewer than 1,540 bottles were produced. Parker begins his review with: " The breathtaking rosé... "
The style of Partida Pedrer Rosat is dry, fresh, and complex, with notes of red fruit (raspberry, red currant), orange peel, wild herbs, and a slightly earthy undertone. This makes this rosé a perfect match for dishes with a certain refinement and complexity, where its lively acidity and subtle tannins play a key role. It is difficult to compare, but is similar in style to the López de Heredia Viña Tondonia Rosado Gran Reserva.

1. Grilled salmon with beetroot and horseradish cream
The earthy beetroot enhances the wine's minerality, while the salmon's structure complements the full mouthfeel. A spicy note of horseradish enhances the vibrant acidity.
2. Roasted chicken with sumac, pomegranate and couscous
The spicy freshness of sumac and the fruity notes of pomegranate complement the aromatic and vibrant character of the rosé. Couscous adds texture and balance.
3. Lentil salad with grilled eggplant, tomato and feta
The earthy lentils and salty feta play to the wine's depth, while the roasted vegetables highlight the spicy and floral notes.
4. Fried monkfish with chorizo cream and fennel
The monkfish's firm structure complements the wine's body. The spicy chorizo adds tension, and fennel underscores the fresh notes in the glass.
5. Veal tartare with raspberry, basil and almond
The soft, fresh flesh pairs beautifully with the fruity profile of the rosé. The raspberry enhances the red fruit, and the almond adds a subtle nutty layer.
6. Guinea fowl with rose harissa, carrot puree and preserved lemon
The slightly sweet and spicy harissa and citrus notes enhance the wine's spicy and floral character. The silky texture of the meat makes for a harmonious pairing.

The earthy and wild rosé 2021 Partida Pedrer Rosat was produced with Garnacha Tinta, Monastrell and Cariñena from a vineyard that also produces a red from Cariñena. It's produced with the juice from a direct pressing, fermented and matured in 600- and 750-liter oak barrels very slowly (about six months), where it matured to complete 16 months. It has contained ripeness and 13% alcohol, very good freshness and balance and an ethereal sensation, lighter this year. It's very atypical for a rosé; it's earthy and mineral, salty, tasty and long, serious, transcending its color or the category. This ages nicely in bottle. 1,540 bottles produced. It was bottled in May 2023.
Sara i René Viticultors is the personal project from Sara Pérez and René Barbier in Priorat. They work with 2.25 hectares and produce only 5,000 bottles. They are planting one hectare of gray varieties (Garnacha, Picapoll, Cariñena and Xarel.lo). In 2020, they didn't make any white because they lost the crop to mildew, so I only tasted the rosé and two reds. The style of the red Pedrer changed some years ago, harvested at the same time as the rosé.

René Barbier (fourth generation of the same name !!!) started in the world of wine in 1992 at Clos Mogador with his father, the other René Barbier, the bearded and dedicated more than 20 years of his life to wine there. The first 10 years he worked mainly in the winery and then mainly in the vineyards and learned that unique land brings unique wines. This has now been proven with the iconic Clos Mogador, Venus Universal and Espectacle wines. In 2001 Rene Barbier had the opportunity to buy a small very old "coster" (steep sloping, traditional) vineyard called Els Bellvisos. This vineyard was abandoned and it was fascinating, in the middle of a steep quarry of holm oaks, the views and the absolute inhospitability are spectacular. It was during this same period that another major influence came into Rene's life in the form of Sara Pérez, his current wife and partner. The daughter of José Luis Pérez, one of the most important figures in the Spanish wine world.
Together with Sara they have brought the Bellvisos vineyard back into production. It was an uncompromising place, but one that offered the chance to make a wine that was one with nature. They started this project based on their philosophy of life: a sustainable, organic project where they could close the circle of life. This fascinating place known as Bellvisos (Bella Vista - Beautiful View) is an extremely steep "coster" or sloping vineyard which, due to the structure of the Llicorella or slate soil, makes it impossible to build vineyard terraces. It was abandoned 40 years before herbicides and chemical pesticides were available so was already completely original organic and biological. There are no neighbors because of the steep slopes around it: not even the bravest would plant a vineyard here! As a result, the area has been in perfect balance for a long time.
Ten years ago they started pruning and the abandoned vines at Bellvisos were brought back into production. They use a mule and hand plowing alternated with cutting the weeds. We apply herbal tea and milk whey as fertilizer and constantly walk through the vines. All manual and aimed at maintaining balance between the freshness of the plot and the depth that is typical Priorat (that which makes the wines so unique). We decide when to harvest based on our taste buds and our intuition… according to a very personal criterion. We prepare each wine in the vineyard by reproducing the wild yeasts ourselves that will lead to a natural alcoholic fermentation, preserving the different aromas according to each vintage.
The Bellvisos and the Partida del Pedrer wines come from this great unique, authentic vineyard in the heart of the Priorat.
