Geografico Pavonero Primitivo di Manduria 2024 is a full-bodied red wine from Puglia in southern Italy. Primitivo grapes thrive in the Manduria region. This wine stands out for its deep color, aroma of ripe dark fruit, and velvety texture. It combines warmth, focus, and freshness in a harmonious style that is versatile for dining.

Origin and climate of the Primitivo di Manduria

Manduria is located in the province of Taranto, near the Ionian Sea. The Mediterranean climate, with long sunny days and cooling sea breezes, helps the grapes ripen evenly. The soils consist primarily of red earth with limestone, known locally as terra rossa. This combination of sun, breeze, and mineral soil produces grapes with abundant color, ripe aromas, and sufficient natural acidity.

The vineyards yield compact clusters of small fruit. The grapes are only picked when they are fully ripe. This results in concentrated flavors with notes of cherry, plum, and blackcurrant. The terroir influence adds a subtle spicy note and a firm backbone that gives the wine tension.

Vinification and flavor profile of the Pavonero 2024

After manual harvesting, the grapes are gently pressed. Fermentation takes place in controlled stainless steel to preserve the pure fruit. Some of the wine is aged for several months in oak, which adds depth and roundness without losing its fresh character. This maintains a clear balance between fruit and structure.

In the glass, the color is ruby red with purple reflections. The aroma is intense, with ripe cherries, plums, and blackberries, complemented by hints of vanilla, cocoa, and licorice. On the palate, the Pavonero is full and supple. The tannins are ripe and soft. The mid-palate reveals juicy dark fruit, light spices, and a touch of chocolate. The finish is long and warm, with a refreshing note that invites another sip.

The 2024 vintage stands out for its bright fruit, balanced acidity, and elegant texture. This makes the wine accessible to drink now and also suitable for several years of aging. With age in the bottle, the flavors become even rounder and more complete.

Wine and food pairings and serving tips

This Primitivo pairs beautifully with full-bodied dishes. Think pasta with ragù, lasagna, grilled vegetables with Parmesan, and oven-baked tomato dishes. It also pairs beautifully with meat. Serve with lamb chops, beef stew, spare ribs, or a spicy barbecue. Spicy cheeses like pecorino or aged Gouda complement the wine's spicy notes beautifully.

Ready to serve between 16 and 18 degrees Celsius. Give the wine some air in a glass or carafe to develop its aromas. Delicious now, but also suitable for aging for three to five years for added complexity.

The company 'Agricoltori del Chianti Geografico' was founded in 1961. It was a cooperative that has since been taken over by Piccini. At Geografico, each vineyard that comes under management is evaluated by the geologist and the vineyard specialist. They give advice on the best grape varieties and rootstocks. They then assist the owner in setting up the vineyard and constantly in vineyard management. An expert winemaker team makes the wine. Finally, there are state of the art bottling lines. This quality philosophy is combined with terroir-orientation: the grapes for the higher wines always come from one vineyard and are therefore named after their domain. The wines are produced in a classical way with little intervention in the vinification process. This results in honest wines, pleasantly drinkable wines, which are also competitively priced.
