Description
history of Domaine Henri Boillot and their Bourgogne Chardonnay
Domaine Henri Boillot is a family business with deep roots in Meursault, Burgundy. Founder Henri Boillot, together with his son, guarantees quality and terroir expression. While Henri emphasizes purity and finesse in the white wines, his son builds the red line. Their Bourgogne Chardonnay is an accessible entry-level model that nevertheless shows the signature of the house: clear, balanced and elegant.
location and terroir of the vineyards
The grapes for this Bourgogne Chardonnay come from carefully selected plots in the southern Côte de Beaune, near Meursault and Auxey-Duresses. The soils consist of chalky clay with added marine fossils. The cooler location in combination with a relatively moderate climate ensure fresh acids, minerality and a nuanced fruit development.
vinification processes and wood influence
After manual harvesting, the grapes are pressed very gently. Fermentation takes place in French oak barrels with approximately 20% new wood, combined with stainless steel. The wine matures for approximately 10 months on the fine lees, with regular batonnage to build texture and complexity. The wood influence is subtle, aimed at balance and support of the fruit.
2023 vintage and harvest conditions
The 2023 vintage in Burgundy was characterised by smooth growth and a dry, warm summer with occasional cooling rain. The vineyards benefited from this mix, retaining elegant acidity and fine aromatic purity. The Bourgogne Chardonnay therefore shows a striking freshness, while retaining ripe white fruit.
color, odor and flavor profile
In the glass, the wine shows a bright straw yellow hue. The nose offers aromas of green apple, ripe pear, citrus citrus and delicate notes of almond and almond pie. In the mouth it is tight and fresh, with a round texture due to the maturation on lees. The minerality and pure fruit make the aftertaste long and lively.
serving tips and storage potential
Serve the wine at 10–12 °C, possibly with minimal aeration to release the aromas. The Bourgogne Chardonnay is already inviting but can mature for up to 5 years. The balance between freshness and wood maturation makes the wine well suited for light gastronomic dishes.

The estate of Henri Boillot, is highly regarded for its exceptional wines, especially those produced from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, the main grape varieties in Burgundy. He has vineyards in several prestigious appellations from Burgundy, including Puligny-Montrachet, Meursault and Volnay.
History of Henri Boillot
The history of Domaine Henri Boillot dates back to the end of the 19th century. It was originally founded by Henri Boillot's grandfather, Henri Boillot Sr., who began acquiring vineyards in some of Burgundy's most prestigious appellations. The wine tradition of the domain has been passed on from generation to generation. Henri Boillot Sr. was succeeded by his son, Henri Boillot Jr., and later by Henri Boillot III. Each generation continued to expand the family's vineyard holdings and refine its winemaking techniques.
Production by Henri Boillot
Henri Boillot owns and manages vineyards spread over approximately 19 hectares (about 47 acres) in Burgundy. Henri Boillot's portfolio typically includes wines made from Chardonnay (white) and Pinot Noir (red), the main grape varieties in Burgundy. One of the notable aspects of Henri Boillot's winemaking philosophy is his commitment to minimal intervention in the winemaking process. He believes that the grapes and the unique characteristics of each vineyard come into their own in the final wine. This approach often involves the use of natural yeasts and minimal use of new oak barrels to ensure that the wines reflect the true essence of the terroir. Henri Boillot is an advocate of sustainable and organic agricultural practices in the vineyards. He believes in minimal intervention in the winemaking process so that the grapes can fully express their origins and character. The estate is particularly highly regarded for its white wines made from Chardonnay grapes, including Premier and Grand Cru bottlings from renowned appellations such as Puligny-Montrachet, Batard-Montrachet, Le Montrachet and Meursault.
Boillot wines are known for their purity, elegance and finesse. His dedication to producing exceptional wines that truly represent the Burgundian terroir has cemented his position as one of the region's top winemakers.
