Description
Cloudy Bay is New Zealand's benchmark wine brand and its most internationally acclaimed. It's one of the first five wineries in Marlborough, New Zealand's premier wine region (located at the northernmost tip of the South Island). A highly sought-after range of wines, each offering a unique experience.
Cloudy Bay Pinot Noir is a classic Pinot Noir, vibrant and beautifully balanced. A kaleidoscope of red fruit and cherries, oak, and spice with soft tannins. The grapes come from 20-year-old vines from various vineyards in the southern Wairau Valley, including the Mustang and Barrack vineyards. The characteristic clay soil with a top layer of alluvial gravel drains well, minimizing stress on the delicate Pinot Noir vines during the dry summer months. The grapes are harvested at night to maximize the intense fruit flavors. Enjoy this wine slightly chilled and savor its elegance! The destemmed grapes were cold-stored in stainless steel tanks for several days and then fermented on the skins for almost three weeks. The wine was aged for one year in French oak barrels, 35% of which were new.
In the glass, the Cloudy Bay Pinot Noir has a light reddish-purple color with plummy hues. The nose is attractive and aromatic with notes of Morello cherries, blackberries, and dark chocolate. In the glass, the wine unfolds layered with delicate floral aromas and subtle spices surrounding a concentrated core of plums. Fine, silky tannins and a juicy acidity give the wine an elegant structure. The subtle oak influence adds complexity and a hint of wood smoke. Conclusion: A long and refined finish of an intriguing and seductive wine. Cloudy Bay Pinot Noir is consistently highly rated by connoisseurs and trade press. The Cloudy Bay Pinot Noir is best enjoyed at a serving temperature between 14 and 16 degrees Celsius. The wine has at least another ten years of aging potential.

A savory and succulent red with strawberry and slate character. Medium-bodied, it has fine and dusty tannins and a tangy, fresh finish. Lemon-rind undertones. So delicious now. Drink or hold. Screw cap.

From: New Zealand Reds: Making the Bucket List (Jul 2025)
The 2023 Pinot Noir Marlborough is vibrant yet creamy. Primary plum and red cherry fruit flavors meet oak-derived spice, tobacco and cedar. Despite its ripeness, there's a mouthwatering freshness here. The 2023 is well made and nicely balanced.
