2023 Clos Fourtet Saint-Émilion Premier Grand Cru Classé

Clos Fourtet is located directly opposite the large church of Saint-Emilion. The terroir consists of a clay-loam soil with a lot of lime. The harvest is done manually and as with all large houses the first selection takes place in the vineyard. The Clos Fourtet is a blend of predominantly Merlot with a small percentage of both Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon and has matured for 16 months in 60 years. % new and 40% second year barriques of French oak.

The Clos Fourtet is deep garnet purple in colour and opens over time with notes of blackberry, plum and wild blueberry, plus hints of forest floor, lavender, baking spices and potpourri. The palate is full and has an amazing texture of soft, mellow tannins and lots of freshness that finishes long and fragrant with berry/spice and some minerality.
