Belondrade and Ossian are considered Spain's finest white (Verdejo) wines. Both are made from very old Verdejo vineyards (with Ossian's being exceptionally old). The Spanish wine region of Rueda, where Belondrade's wines are produced, is located 165 km northwest of Madrid in the heart of Castilla y León on the banks of the Duero River (Portuguese Douro), which flows into the sea at Porto.

Made with 100% Verdejo yeast, their wine is aged in oak barrels. Before bottling, the wine from the various barrels is blended in stainless steel cuvées. The wine is only lightly filtered. The nose reveals white fruit and lightly roasted aromas from the partially new oak barrels, while the palate reveals ripeness and richness, yet still sufficiently fresh thanks to the perfect balance with the acidity. A truly magnificent and special wine. A total of tens of thousands of bottles are produced, with very limited shipments to the Netherlands. Incidentally, 2,500 bottles from the previous harvest went to El Bulli restaurant (connoisseurs consider it one of the best restaurants in the world, located near Barcelona), and it was Johan Cruyff's favorite wine. This is a 1.5 litre magnum (FYI: Belondrade always releases its Magnums a year later to allow for additional bottle maturation, and with the 3 litre and 6 litre versions even 2 years later).

White wines have been made in the Rueda region for centuries. The grandeur of the buildings, churches, monasteries and estates of Nava del Rey and Rueda testify to the enormous wealth in the past. The division of the domains made winemaking so loss-making that many vineyards disappeared. Today the area is very much on the rise again. Didier Belondrade and Brigitte Lurton started making wine in 1994 in Nava del Rey, in the heart of the Denominación. In this old town there is a labyrinth of abandoned cellars. The size of these cellars suggests how much wine was made here in the past. Within the walls of this old town, Belondrade and Lurton have chosen modern winemaking. The Belondrade is considered by many to be the best white wine in Spain, but the Belondrade Apolonio and the great Quinta Clarisa are also there. Very nice.
