Description
Domaine Rémi Jobard and the purity of Meursault
Domaine Rémi Jobard is one of Meursault's most precise and terroir-focused estates. The wines are known for their crystal-clear expression, minimal oak influence, and remarkable tension. While Meursault is sometimes associated with creaminess and opulence, Jobard favors a tighter, more energetic style. Under the Winery tab, you can read more about the estate's background and the philosophy that has shaped this distinctive style.
Le Poruzot-Dessus is one of Meursault's most powerful Premier Crus. The higher elevation, chalky soil, and robust structure of this plot produce wines with intensity and depth, yet always with a refined freshness. In 2022, Jobard impressively lets this terroir speak for itself.
The character of Premier Cru Le Poruzot-Dessus
Le Poruzot-Dessus lies just above the better-known Poruzot-Bas. The uppermost layer is characterized by stony, chalky soil with a thin topsoil and good drainage. The roots must search deeply for water and minerals, resulting in small, concentrated grapes with intense aromatic expression.
The terroir is known for wines with a firm backbone, pronounced minerality, and a savory, slightly smoky structure. This makes Poruzot-Dessus one of the village's most gastronomic Premier Crus, with a profile that is often slightly firmer and straighter than, for example, Genevrières or Charmes.
The 2022 harvest year in Meursault
2022 was a warm year with little rainfall, but thanks to the cool nights, the acidity balance remained surprisingly good. For Meursault, this meant a near-ideal combination of ripe fruit, aromatic concentration, and fine tension. The grapes were perfectly healthy, with full aromas and elegant acidity.
For Poruzot-Dessus, 2022 yielded a wine where power and precision complement each other. The warmth of the year lends richness, while the terroir offers freshness and structure. This results in an impressive Premier Cru that will impress both now and in the long term.
Vinification and maturation by Rémi Jobard
Jobard operates entirely organically and with minimal intervention in the cellar. The grapes are pressed slowly to preserve as much finesse as possible. Spontaneous fermentation takes place in large oak foudres, allowing the wood influence to remain subtle and the terroir to take center stage.
The wine is aged for approximately fifteen months on the lees, without excessive bâtonnage. This maintains a soft and layered texture, yet simultaneously taut and vertical. The combination of large barrels and long aging produces a wine with tension, depth, and a particularly pure expression of Poruzot-Dessus.
Color, smell and taste of the 2022 Meursault 1er Cru Le Poruzot-Dessus
The wine presents itself with a bright, light golden color. The nose is intense and complex, with aromas of lemon oil, white peach, pear, and subtle blossom. Behind this lie chalky notes, smoke, almond, and a light spiciness typical of Poruzot-Dessus.
On the palate, the wine displays a powerful structure. The attack is fresh and taut, after which a compact, mineral core develops. Citrus fruit, ripe apple, and subtle spices are carried by lively acidity. The texture is firm and precise, with a remarkable depth that gives the wine breadth and verticality. This is a Meursault with energy and length, without any heaviness.
The finish is long and concentrated, with notes of lemon peel, toasted almond, lime, and a subtle salinity. The wine maintains its tension from beginning to end, clearly demonstrating that Poruzot-Dessus is among the most expressive Premier Crus.
Storage potential
While the wine already impresses with its precision and intensity, Poruzot-Dessus is among Meursault's most age-friendly wines. The 2022 vintage will develop beautifully over the next ten to fifteen years. With age, more complex aromas of brioche, hazelnut, and honey will develop, while the minerality and structure will remain perfectly preserved.

The 2018 Meursault 1er Cru Poruzots Dessus opens in the glass with aromas of pear, fresh peach, orange rind and honey. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, supple and textural, with lively acids and chalky structuring dry extract, marking a step up in concentration and amplitude after the lieux-dits that preceded it.
As I wrote last year, Rémi Jobard is a softly spoken perfectionist who produces beautifully pure and vibrant expressions of Meursault that merit considerable interest. As readers may know, Jobard took over from his father Charles in 1996, and where Charles produced ripe, rich wines, Rémi has evolved in a decidedly different direction: today, the wines see two winters on the lees, and élevage is largely in Stockinger foudres. The result is a precise, almost minimalist style that produces Meursault of unusual transparency: classy wines that evolve slowly in bottle. 2017, which I revisited from bottle, is an excellent vintage at this address, simultaneously tensile but giving in profile, and they come warmly recommended. Jobard's 2018s are a little suppler and rounder, and they will drink well sooner than his serious 2017s.

Aromas of pear, white flowers, crisp yellow orchard fruit and oatmeal introduce Jobard's 2017 Meursault 1er Cru Poruzots Dessus, a medium to full-bodied, satiny, layered wine that displays greater mid-palate volume and texture than the lieux-dits bottlings that preceded it—though this is still a decidedly tensile, precise wine, in keeping with Jobard's style.

A softly spoken-perfectionist, Rémi Jobard produces beautifully pure and vibrant expressions of Meursault that merit considerable interest; so I was a little perplexed when he informed me, during my December visit, that I was as yet the only critic to taste his 2017 collection. As readers may know, Jobard took over from his father Charles in 1996. No fertilizers have been used since 1994, and the domaine was certified organic in 2008. All its vines are cordon pruned, promoting smaller yields and smaller berries. And since taking the helm, Jobard's style has evolved step by step: today, the wines see two winters on the lees, and élevage is largely in Stockinger foudres. The 2019 Meursault Poruzots Dessus 1er Cru displays attractive tropical notes of passion fruit and guava on the nose, maybe obscuring some Meursault typicité but you won’t complain too loudly. The palate is well balanced with that tropical theme continuing, very smooth in texture with nectarine, Clementine, peach and apricot towards the seductive finish. Fine, but more early drinking fare.

Remi Jobard is the dynamic son of Charles Jobard, who has dedicated years to the construction of this small winery of 9 hectares, but with large plots in Meursault. Remi immediately showed his talent with modernly made wines that are mainly pure and mineral, original and not over-concentrated. The domaine has already abolished the use of herbicides and chemicals since 1988 and the wines are fully certified organic, so that the terroirs with their beautiful limestone hills can be seen to their fullest.
The harvest is carried out by the same team every year, the pickers are experienced and carry out an initial sorting directly in the vineyard. In addition to organic viticulture, as little intervention as possible is made in the vinification, the aging in Stockinger demi-muids, 650 liters of Austrian oak barrels, brings very little wood aromas, but a beautiful structure. These Burgundies often receive high reviews from the press and are a fine reference of the Meursault appellation, with chiseled and pure wines. The premier crus Poruzot and Genevrières, together with the Charmes and Perrières, are among the most perfect terroirs that Meursault has to offer.
