The Manzone Barolo Serralunga comes from the younger vineyards in the Meriame cru in the comune (municipality) of Serralunga d'Alba in Barolo. The vineyards are situated at an altitude of 350 meters and face south/southeast. The soil consists mainly of clay and limestone. The vines are approximately 25 years old. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature. Subsequently, the wine ages in wood for 24 months, of which at least 60% is in large Slavonian oak vats (3,000 liters) and the remainder in French tonneaux (350 liters).

In the glass, the Manzone Barolo Serralunga displays the typical light ruby red Barolo color. On the nose, we detect notes of rose petals, dried plums, tar, and wood. The Barolo is powerful yet refined at the same time, with aromas of cherries and plums complemented by earthy notes, good structure, and full tannins. Delicious with charcuterie, such as bresaola, salami, and spicy sausage. Also wonderful with a beef and mushroom stew.

ABOUT MERAAME
Meriame is the Barolo cru on the rise. The popularity of the Meriame cru is relatively new. Paolo Manzone's eponymous Cascina Meriame has certainly played a role in this. Since 1999, he has been producing fine Barolos, including a 100% Meriame. Meriame forms a kind of amphitheater that protects the vines from winter frost and summer heat. There is always a good balance between warmth and humidity. The soils of the Lequio Formation are rich in limestone and provide power and structure. Consequently, substantial wines with an earthy character come from the best parts of the Meriame cru, in the middle and upper sections. The wines from the lower part are more elegant in style.

ABOUT MANZONE
In rustic Serralunga d'Alba, in the heart of the DOCG Barolo, lies the Meriame cru, where Paolo Manzone has planted his Nebbiolo for his most important wines. The vineyard dates back to 1948, and the vines are sometimes up to 70 years old. Manzone has drawn inspiration from Burgundy and produces Barolos that age in French Burgundy barrels. These are Barolos in a fairly modern style, which complement the accessible and somewhat earthy style of Barolos produced by the Meriame cru.

Paolo Manzone, long-time winemaker for wine giant Giordano, has achieved his dream. He owns ten hectares of vineyard in Piedmont, 4 of which have the prestigious Barolo appellation and 6 in the Alba area. One Barolo bears the name of the sub-district of Serralunga - homeland of long-lived, fairly vigorous Barolos - and comes from 15-year-old vines. The other is a "single vineyard" or Cru: Meriame, planted 60 years ago
