Description
Domaine Rémi Jobard and the style of modern Meursault
Domaine Rémi Jobard is known in Meursault for a style that is clear, pure, and extremely precise. While some producers opt for a richer approach, Jobard deliberately works with a restrained hand in both vineyard and cellar. The wines display impressive tension and minerality, while fully preserving the typical Meursault structure. Under the Winery tab, you'll find more information about the estate, the historical family lineage, and the methods that give these wines their character.
Les Chevalières is one of Meursault's higher-lying terroirs and produces wines that are typically tighter, finer, and more focused. In the hands of Rémi Jobard, this plot acquires a distinct precision and aromatic purity that makes this 2022 vintage truly stand out.
The terroir of Meursault Les Chevalières
Les Chevalières is located north of the village, above Les Narvaux, on a slope with a thin layer of limestone soil that warms quickly and drains exceptionally well. This terroir is known for wines with a combination of tension, finesse, and mineral length. The vines must root deeply to access nutrients, resulting in small, concentrated grapes with refined aromas.
Chevalières isn't a Premier Cru, but experts regularly cite it as one of Meursault's finest village parcels. Its location, stony subsoil, and the coolness of the higher slopes create an almost Puligny-like purity, while the typical Meursault character remains clearly evident.
The 2022 harvest year in Meursault
2022 was a warm, dry year in which the grapes were exceptionally healthy. Despite the high temperatures, the acidity was surprisingly well-preserved, thanks to cool nights and limited water stress in the higher-elevation plots. The wines from this year combine ripe fruit with a lively tension, making them both accessible and structured.
For Meursault, the 2022 vintage offered delightful aromatic intensity, softer textures, and a beautiful balance between roundness and freshness. Les Chevalières benefits further from its higher altitude, giving the wine remarkable clarity and refinement.
Vinification and maturation by Rémi Jobard
Rémi Jobard operates entirely organically and employs a classic yet meticulous winemaking style. The grapes are pressed slowly and gently to preserve delicate aromas. Fermentation takes place in large foudres, a key characteristic of the Jobard style. The use of these large barrels ensures that the wood never dominates, maintaining a light and transparent texture.
The wine is aged for approximately fifteen months on the lees, without heavy bâtonnage. This gives the wine subtle roundness, while maintaining its taut structure and tension. The result is a Meursault that is elegant, without excessive creaminess, and that perfectly reflects the character of Les Chevalières.
Color, aroma and taste of the 2022 Meursault Les Chevalières
The color is bright light yellow with green highlights. The aroma opens with lemon, ripe pear, and white blossom. After a few minutes, subtle spice emerges, followed by notes of wet stone, almond, and a light smokiness typical of this chalky terroir.
On the palate, the wine displays remarkable tension. The attack is fresh and precise, after which an elegant creaminess unfolds in the mid-palate. The acidity is lively and contributes to a taut, mineral appearance. Stone fruit, citrus, and floral notes combine to create a refined and pure whole.
The finish is long and chalky, with notes of lemon peel, chalk, and a subtle nutty touch. The style is clear, focused, and energetic, with enough depth to allow the wine to age for several years.
Storage potential
This Meursault Les Chevalières is already approachable, but will gain further complexity over the next five to eight years. Its fresh structure supports a beautiful evolution, with more brioche, hazelnut, and riper stone fruit emerging. The wine's remarkable tension ensures it will remain elegant and balanced as it ages.

Aromas of citrus zest, ripe pears, fresh bread and vine blossom introduce the 2019 Meursault Narvaux, a medium to full-bodied, rich and layered wine that's concentrated and incisive, exemplifying the vintage-typical alliance between ripeness and acidity.
As I wrote last year, this is one of Meursault's more promising under-the-radar estates, and the wines deserve to be better known. The young Valentin Jobard is cousins with Antoine and Rémi Jobard; his grandmother was Bernard Morey's sister, and she married a Jobard after the Second World War, with 1949 marking the real beginning of this six-hectare domaine. Valentin's grandfather, he speculates, worked with François Jobard's father and may be the source of a shared approach to winemaking; but he died in 1980, and the domaine was left in a state of more or less benevolent neglect. Since taking the helm, Valentin has worked to rehabilitate the estate's wines, cultivating the soils and trending in an organic direction. In 2020, he tells me, he had time to devote to even more manual labor: use of the "pioche" or pickaxe between vines, and severe debudding to limit yields. His winemaking style is classical: whole bunches are pressed for more than three hours, settled overnight and barreled down with lots of lees in oak from Tonnelleries Rémond, Bethomieu and Ermitage, some 25% of which is new. They see one year in wood and two to three months in tank before bottling to digest any dissolved oxygen, but Valentin is experimenting with a full 24-month élevage in barrel. The wines have been closed with Diams since the 2008 vintage and go to bottle with 25 parts per million of free sulfur dioxide. The 2019s have turned out nicely, displaying both the bright acids and the richness of fruit that, in combination, are the vintage's signature; and the 2018s, which I also revisited on this visit, lived up to their performance a year ago.

Remi Jobard is the dynamic son of Charles Jobard, who has dedicated years to the construction of this small winery of 9 hectares, but with large plots in Meursault. Remi immediately showed his talent with modernly made wines that are mainly pure and mineral, original and not over-concentrated. The domaine has already abolished the use of herbicides and chemicals since 1988 and the wines are fully certified organic, so that the terroirs with their beautiful limestone hills can be seen to their fullest.
The harvest is carried out by the same team every year, the pickers are experienced and carry out an initial sorting directly in the vineyard. In addition to organic viticulture, as little intervention as possible is made in the vinification, the aging in Stockinger demi-muids, 650 liters of Austrian oak barrels, brings very little wood aromas, but a beautiful structure. These Burgundies often receive high reviews from the press and are a fine reference of the Meursault appellation, with chiseled and pure wines. The premier crus Poruzot and Genevrières, together with the Charmes and Perrières, are among the most perfect terroirs that Meursault has to offer.
