Description
The history of Domaine Evenstad and its Burgundian roots
Domaine Evenstad was founded in 2021 by American couple Grace and Ken Evenstad, known for the award-winning Domaine Serene in Oregon. With a passion for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, they expanded their wine empire to Burgundy, where they manage 6 hectares of vineyards spread across prestigious appellations such as Chambolle-Musigny, Nuits-Saint-Georges and Clos de Vougeot. Their goal is to produce wines that express the unique characteristics of each terroir, combining traditional Burgundian methods with modern techniques.
Chambolle-Musigny: a terroir of finesse and elegance
Located in the Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny is known for its delicate and elegant Pinot Noir wines. The vineyards are located on east-facing slopes between 250 and 300 meters in altitude and rest on shallow soils of Jurassic limestone with excellent drainage. These conditions contribute to wines with refined aromas and a silky texture. The appellation, recognized since 1936, includes both Village and Premier Cru vineyards, including the famous Les Amoureuses and Les Charmes.
Vinification and maturation of the 2022 Chambolle-Musigny
The 2022 Domaine Evenstad Chambolle-Musigny Village is made from 100% Pinot Noir grapes, hand-harvested in September 2022. After careful fermentation, the wine was aged for 12 months in French oak barrels, some of which were new. This approach ensures a harmonious integration of wood influences while preserving the expression of the fruit and the terroir. The wine was bottled in the spring of 2024.
Color, aroma and flavor profile of the wine
The wine presents itself with a bright ruby red color. On the nose, aromas of red berries, cherries and floral notes such as violets emerge, complemented by subtle hints of spices and mineral accents. On the palate, the wine is elegant and refined, with silky tannins and a lively acidity that ensures a fresh and balanced finish. This Chambolle-Musigny Village is already accessible, but will develop further with a few years of bottle aging. This Evenstad 2022 Chambolle-Musigny is an elegant and refined Pinot Noir from the prestigious Chambolle-Musigny in the Côte de Nuits.
