Description
Domaine d'Ardhuy is a Burgundy house that quickly became one of the top 5 producers in the region. Very extensive choice of terroirs, and high quality from the base to the Crus. Gabriel Ardhuy helped with the 1947 harvest in Burgundy and met his future wife Eliane, daughter of a wine grower from Burgundy. They have seven daughters. The d'Ardhuy family has long owned the Pierre André trading house, with its headquarters at Château Corton-André. This was sold in 2002, so that all attention could be focused on the own vineyards and developing the own domain. The Ardhuy family owns more than forty hectares of vineyard in fantastic plots and also owns a company in the Rhône. A daughter has been appointed for both domains to organize it. At the beginning of 2003, Carel Voorhuis, son of a lawyer from Maastricht who had previously bought a winery in the Jura, came in as 'director'. And then things went quickly: already in 2004, the Revue de Vins de France chose Ardhuy as number 3 of producers in the Côte de Beaune and as number 4 in the Côte de Nuits.
The grapes grow on young vines on a poor marl soil. This soil is very suitable for Chardonnay, which gives the wine freshness and minerality. The vineyards are located at an altitude of about 280 meters and are oriented south. The sunny location and cool nights ensure a good balance between ripeness and freshness.
The Domaine d'Ardhuy Savigny Blanc Clos des Godeaux is expressive on the nose with aromas of white fruit, peach, acacia blossom and a light wood tone. Fresh and juicy on the palate with soft acidity and creamy notes of caramel, hazelnuts and a light smokiness. A Burgundy to enjoy young, already beautiful to drink now, but can certainly age for a few more years.
