Description
The Clos de l'Oratoire 2022 is a Grand Cru Classé from Saint-Émilion, Bordeaux, France. The winery was founded in the mid-19th century by the Beylot family and is located north of the city of Saint-Émilion. Clos de l'Oratoire is part of the portfolio of Comtes von Neipperg, a family with a rich history in wine production.
The von Neipperg family, originally from Germany, has centuries of experience in winemaking. Graf Stephan von Neipperg acquired Clos de l'Oratoire in 1991 and has since made it one of the leading Grand Cru Classé estates in Saint-Émilion. Under his leadership, the estate has become part of a wider portfolio that includes other prestigious properties such as Château Canon-La-Gaffelière, La Mondotte, and Château Peyraud.
The family is known for its commitment to sustainability, terroir expression, and a modern approach to winemaking, which has contributed to the revival of Clos de l'Oratoire.
The vineyard covers approximately 10 hectares and is planted with 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. The vines are planted on limestone and clay soils, which contribute to the complexity and structure of the wine.
The Clos de l'Oratoire 2022 is characterized by aromas of dark berries and plums, mixed with notes of smoke, flowers and sweet earthy nuances. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, fleshy and lively, with a sweet core of fruit, fine tannins and a long, spicy finish.

From: You’re Unbelievable: Bordeaux 2022 (May 2023)
The 2022 Clos de l'Oratoire was picked from 13-23 September at 47hL/ha and aged in 30% new oak. It has a nicely composed, floral bouquet with red cherries, crushed strawberry and orange rind. Fine delineation. The palate is medium-bodied and well-balanced, with a gentle grip on the entry, grainy tannins and a lively and overly peppery finish that lingers in the mouth. More structured than the d'Aiguilhe, this will merit four to five years in bottle.

From: 2022 Bordeaux En Primeur: Balance Imbalance (May 2023)
The 2022 Clos de L’Oratoire is rich, sensual and super-expressive. The blend is 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, with the Franc adding dynamic energy, aromatic presence and structure. Complex and beautifully layered, Clos de L’Oratoire is showing beautifully today. Succulent red cherry, blood orange, spice, tobacco, cedar and dried herbs build, with clean, saline notes that extend the finish.
