Winery Château Trotte Vieille

Château Trotte Vieille is a historic estate in Saint-Émilion, situated on a walled vineyard with clay-limestone soils. The estate is known for its high proportion of Cabernet Franc, which gives the wines a pronounced aromatic finesse and structure. Recent investments in vineyard management and a new cellar with small vats have resulted in greater precision and integration in the wines. 2022 Château Trotte Vieille Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Magnum

The 2022 is a remarkably complete and integrated wine, sourced from the château's historic walled vineyard and presented in magnum format for extra aging potential.

Grape varieties and terroir

The blend consists of 50% Cabernet Franc, 45% Merlot, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. The chalky soils lend tension and minerality, while the high proportion of Cabernet Franc provides aromatic lift and structure. The new vinification facilities, with 26 separate vats covering just 11 hectares, allow for extremely precise plot selection.

The 2022 vintage

2022 was warm and concentrated, but thanks to careful vineyard practices and meticulous vinification, the wine remains vibrant and balanced. The combination of ripe fruit, fresh acidity, and refined tannins makes this one of the most successful young Trotte Vieilles in recent years.

Color, smell and taste

Deep ruby red with purple hues. The nose reveals dark berries, violets, and rose petals, complemented by incense and subtle spice. The palate is medium to full-bodied, layered, and concentrated with a core of vibrant fruit. The tannins are fine and refined, beautifully integrated into the structure. The finish is long and mineral, with a slightly salty note that adds tension.

Structure and storage potential

The wine possesses depth and precision, with a classic balance between ripeness and freshness. In magnum, it will develop more slowly and gain additional complexity. This is a Saint-Émilion that will continue to develop over several decades.
