Description
Winery Château Petit-Village
Château Petit-Village is a historic estate in the heart of Pomerol, situated on the highest part of the plateau. The château boasts a long history, but in recent years has focused strongly on precision in the vineyard and cellar to fully express the potential of this exceptional terroir. The style is modern classic: concentration and structure, combined with finesse and terroir expression. The focus is on low yields, careful selection, and balanced oak aging. More information about this winery can be found under the Winery tab.
Region and year 2022
The 2022 vintage in Pomerol is characterized by ripeness, concentration, and impressive balance. The warm, dry conditions produced thick skins and deep color, while the plateau's clay and gravel soils preserved ample freshness. The result is a wine with power and structure, but also remarkable precision.
Vineyards and grape varieties
The Château Petit-Village vineyards are strategically located among some of Pomerol's most renowned neighbors. The soils consist of gravel with a clay subsoil, ideal for Merlot, supplemented with Cabernet Franc and a small portion of Cabernet Sauvignon. This combination creates depth, aromatic intensity, and structure.
Vinification and maturation
The grapes are harvested plot by plot and fermented separately to maintain maximum control. Maturation takes place in French oak barriques, with a carefully selected proportion of new wood used to add structure and complexity without dominating the fruit. The maturation contributes to the refined tannin structure and long finish.
Color, smell and taste
Deep ruby red in color. Pronounced aromas of blackberries and blueberries on the nose, with notes of cedarwood and a subtle smoky touch.
The palate is medium to full-bodied, with an impressive mid-palate and carefully integrated tannins that give the wine length and tension. The texture is exceptionally refined, with a fresh, focused finish that perfectly complements the ripe fruit. The balance between power and elegance makes this a very complete Pomerol.
Magnum 1.5 liter
This wine is offered in a 1.5-liter magnum. A magnum ages more slowly and evenly than a standard bottle, allowing aromas to develop more complexly and the structure to remain more refined. For a concentrated vintage like 2022, this means additional aging potential and even greater harmony over the long term. Moreover, the larger size enhances the wine's collectible appeal.
Drinking window and development
With 97 points, the 2022 Château Petit-Village ranks among the appellation's top wines in this warm year. It's recommended to wait until at least 2029, after which the wine will continue to develop and evolve for years to come.
Summary of professional reviews
The 2022 vintage is praised for its deep fruit expression of blackberries and blueberries, combined with cedar, smoke, and exceptional texture. The tannin structure is refined and flows seamlessly into a long, fresh, and focused finish. A very balanced and impressive Pomerol with excellent aging potential.

Offering up aromas of dark berries, plum preserve and kirsch, framed by creamy new oak, the 2022 Petit Village is medium to full-bodied, with a sweet, fleshy, somewhat baked core of fruit framed by generously extracted tannins. It appears to be a wine without a very strong sense of identity.

The blackberries and blueberries, ash and cedar are prevalent on the nose, flowing through to a medium body with a beautiful center palate and curated tannins that run the length of the wine. From: 2022 Bordeaux in Bottle: Living in the Present (Jan 2025)
The 2022 Petit-Village turned out beautifully. Elegant and polished to the core, the 2022 is a Pomerol of refinement. Crushed flowers, spice, new leather, cedar, mint and espresso are all beautifully delineated. Silky, polished tannins bring it all together on the vibrant finish. The 2022 spent 14 months in French oak, 45% new, with some alternative vessels thrown into the mix. The oak is very well integrated here, more so than it is in Beauregard, with which is shares ownership and the winemaking team.

Château Petit-Village takes its name from the small hamlet of Catusseau, where the Château is located, next to Ch. l'Evangile, Ch. La Conseillante en Vieux Ch. Certan. The terroir is perfect for a large Pomerol (clay-stone). The château was owned by Axa Millésimes (as well as Ch.
