Domaine de Léoville, one of the oldest estates in the Médoc, belonged to some of the wealthiest and most influential noble French families before being acquired by the Las Cases family. Following the French Revolution, the estate was divided between 1826 and 1840. Château Léoville Las Cases emerged, by a kind of birthright, from three-fifths of the original estate and formed the heart of the estate. The current terroir of the Grand Vin has therefore formed the historical heart of the original terroir since the 17th century. Pierre Jean, Adolphe, and Gabriel de Las Cases were heirs to the estate until 1900, when Théophile Skawinski purchased a share in the estate and became its manager. Léoville Las Cases has been managed by the same family since the end of the 19th century and is today represented by Jean-Hubert Delon, sole owner of the château and owner of Château Potensac in the Medoc and Château Nénin in Pomerol.

The Château Léoville Las Cases vineyards are located in the northern part of Saint-Julien, bordering Château Latour. The proximity of the Gironde River and the well-drained, gravelly soils contribute to the estate's excellent terroir. The vineyard is planted with classic Bordeaux grape varieties, with a significant emphasis on Cabernet Sauvignon, which thrives in the gravelly soils and gives the wines structure and aging potential. Château Léoville Las Cases is known for producing powerful, age-worthy red wines that are considered among the finest in Bordeaux. The winemaking approach incorporates traditional methods, with an emphasis on expressing the unique characteristics of the estate's terroir. The grapes are carefully harvested and sorted before fermentation, and the wines are typically aged in oak barrels.

The 2022 Léoville Las-Cases was harvested from September 8th to 30th, with more emphasis on infusion than extraction, and aged in 84% new oak. On the nose, this Saint-Julien presents itself early-ripening, almost decadently, with lush blackberry and blueberry fruit—there's something exuberant and bold about it. Underlying it is an estuarine element, a hint of the Gironde estuary. The palate is medium-bodied with polished tannins, highly refined and extremely pure, with a superb precision on the finish. The 2022 Léoville Las Cases received the maximum score of 100/100.
