Origin and terroir

The vineyards of La Violette are situated in the heart of Pomerol, on soils rich in clay and gravel. This combination provides structure, depth, and a clear terroir expression. The location offers optimal conditions for Merlot, with sufficient warmth for ripening and soils that retain water well during dry periods. This terroir yields wines with a velvety texture and distinctive complexity.

Grapes and vineyard management

The wine is made primarily from Merlot, supplemented by a small proportion of Cabernet Franc. The vines are relatively old and yield low harvests, which contributes to concentration and intensity. Great care is taken in the vineyard, with manual harvesting and strict selection. Only the best grapes are used to ensure the quality and purity of the wine.

Vinification and aging

After the harvest, the grapes are carefully processed and fermented with a focus on finesse and balance. Extraction is carried out under controlled conditions to obtain soft and integrated tannins. Aging takes place in oak barrels, where the wood is subtly used to support the structure. During this phase, the wine also undergoes sur lie aging, which provides extra depth and a round texture. For the Violette, of which only a very limited number of bottles are ever produced, the berries are selected from the bunch. All of this is done entirely by hand.

Color, smell and taste

The wine has a deep ruby red color. On the nose, complex aromas of ripe plums, bergamot, and spicy wood notes emerge, complemented by white pepper and subtle floral nuances. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, with a silky texture and refined tannins. The fruit is juicy and precise, with a beautiful balance between ripeness and freshness. The finish is exceptionally long, lingering for almost a minute, with an elegant and slightly spicy finale.

Style and character

This Pomerol combines power with refinement. The wine has an open and accessible style, yet simultaneously retains structure and depth. The tannins are firm yet enveloping, resulting in an elegant and modern interpretation of Pomerol. This is a wine with charm in its youth, but also with potential to age further.
